Going through the app drawer, I noticed that a few apps have begun to show a red 'new' tag on their icons, on the top left. It disappears on opening and closing an app with the tag, but it reappears the next day. Along with this, I have faced an issue I which random apps install without permission, and they also pop up randomly while operating the device. I have uninstalled all apps which I suspect is the cause. Will attach photos once tags reappear. Please help.

What device have you actually got there? Something bought cheap online, imported from China? This sounds like AliYun.
It's a Lava A72, sold in India. Also, just as promised, here's proof.

Looks like there's another problem with my phone. Or there's a virus? Two apps: named 9apps and UC news have been installed automatically, without my permission. Seeing this I immediately uninstalled them. However, they just keep coming back and they also pop up on the screen once in a while-started just a few hours ago. Help please-is it a virus?

Also, sharing the app icons...

It's not a virus. The Lava A72 has great specs for a budget phone but in order to give you that great price OEMs have been known to make deals with third party developers. Have you tried a factory reset yet? If you still see the problem after that it's the OEM, If not it might be some app you loaded after you got it.

It came with an app-Clean Master-it claimed to be popular and the best RAM cleaning app, but within a couple weeks of using it, I faced the same app problems-a "Facebook -patch 1" had been installed, and it used to send as pop-ups. Uninstalling the "patch"and clean master fixed it... And again I get this... The app in the attached photo was something I uninstalled just a few minutes ago, and it seems to be of chosen matter

Only if you didn't install Clean Master yourself. If that program was pre-installed on your phone you'll have to Root.

Someone else will have to help you with that.

Check if it has a system app called "Cheetah Mobile Clean Master SDK", which would have been pre-installed by Lava. If so, try disabling it.

This is a budget device, mainly sold in India I think. And very likely it's Cheetah Mobile is giving Lava $$$, in return for having their ads on the Lava phones.

I have seen this happening myself with China Unicom version Samsung Galaxy phones. Although I think CM no longer has any deals with Samsung now.
