Help Apps not loading..disappearing from notnification bar

Hi guys..I'm a noob to this site and have only had my Captivate about a month. Just today I noticed that when I try to download an app I receive the little 'download notification' in the notification bar but it goes away after 2 seconds and doesn't download anything. I have tried different apps, clearing the cache, force stopping the market, etc, and still no luck..even shut off the phone and turned it on after each thing I try. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I finally got this to work! This is was what I did: I shamelessly copied/pasted from a different forum...

menu-->Settings-->Applications-->Manage applications-->Download Manager-->Clear data.

For those of you not seeing "Download Manager" in the applications list, here is a slight modification..

menu-->Settings-->Applications-->Manage applications-->Filter: All-->Download Manager-->Clear data
