Android Question

Does anyone know which applications can be shut off and which MUST stay on? The only thing I want this phone to do is make calls, send/receive texts and keep the telephone book directory. The rest are wasted applications that drain the battery or spy on your every move. Help would be appreciated. I've tried turning off as many as I can. I don't know what half or more of them even do and there are no explanations for the programs on the web that I can find.

Most of them have to do with keeping you connected to Google and can't be turned off. If all you wanted was talk, text and a directory, why did you buy an Android phone? A feature phone is a LOT cheaper, it costs you less (you pay for a data plan on an Android phone whether you use data or not) and there are no unnecessary apps and nothing spies on you but the government.

As far as which apps can be removed, we'd need to know the make and model of the phone )they're all different). In addition, there are apps that you absolutely don't need, but th manufacturer or carrier puts them on the phone (they're called "bloat") and you can't remove them without modifying the phone (which, among other things, voids the warranty).

You'd be much better off with a feature phone.
