Help Apps open automatically and use up DATA

I've had a new phone for a couple months now. It's faster because it's 4G, but it seems to keep all my social networking apps open all the time.

I went to the WIND store to find out why my internet kept running out so quickly and they told me it was the apps that are using it up. I've since tried shutting them off but a little while later they're on again.

I've tried downloading a couple apps which claimed to be able to block start up but they said my phone was too not and had to be rooted or something.

How can I keep these apps from continuously opening and using up my internet? I can't just disable them because they're important. I need them, but I can check them manually. I've tried turning off notifications but it doesn't stop them opening.

That's what social networking apps tend to do, things like Facebook. The ideas is you can receive instant messages and notifications in real-time of what all your friends are doing.. If you don't want to do that, suggest removing them and just use their mobile sites instead via the browser, which is basically checking-in manually. Especially something like Facebook, which is a notorious resource hog.

Not really. Why aren't you using Wi-Fi? That alone should cut down your data

There is an easy way to fix that.
Turn OFF data and leave it off. I never have data ON with my phones unless I need it when away from the house. I use a macro to turn off WiFi when the screen is locked...

If the apps cannot see the Internet, they can't update.

also, you can go to Facebook's website with a PC browser and you can really turn off a lot of the things it does. I did.... I don't let it talk to me ever, unless I have the app up and running.

We have two cellphones on our data plan, and we rarely ever exceed 1 gB/month.
We always use WiFi at home, or when it is available.

I'll try that. I don't use WiFi because I don't have it where I live. I get 3G of data monthly and wifi only when I go to certain cafes or at my mom's house.

I really appreciate your DATA restrictions.
That is tight in this day and age of active Internet use.

I have done one other thing with my phone and with my Laptop when using the phone's Hotspot as the Internet source.

I turn off Image Downloading "automatically", and I use AdBlockers to prevent links to outside sources that I have no interest in.

I am an avid news junkie and read news.google.com many times a day. I have the preferences on it set up to feed me things that I am interested in, and turn off the areas of that I don't care about. ie, sports. that is turned OFF.

Even with me being an active Internet user ( I am a moderator of an extremely active motorcycle forum ), my DATA use on our Family Plan rarely ever goes beyond 4 gB/month even when I am on a tour and using my phone heavily when not at home. I make every effort to use hotel WiFi or any WiFi if I can...
I am trying to equate me being on an extended tour, as being a parallel to you not having WiFi at home.

If you can restrict your phone from downloading images ( news sites are horrible with images ) you can really keep a tight rein on your DATA use.
