Root Apps open slow

dmt411

Lurker
I rooted the phone about 2 months ago. It seems very slow to open apps, to unlock the screen and do most anything.

I followed the rooting for dummies thread and did not create a swap partition. I did create a 2 gig partition for internal & the rest of the 16 gig SD card is storage.

Samsung Galaxy Prevail SPH-M820-BST
Kernel Ver 2.6.35.14-PREVL_KK-2.5
CTMod 3.75.2 Final

The swap would help, but also how much memory is free in the (running) of settings and if you reboot does it run fast for a little while then slow down again?

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry for the slow response.

Swap file may help, I would like to hold off on that for now.
Could not find how much memory is free in (running) if settings, where is this?
Yes upon reboot is runs better then slows down, I do not know how long it has to run before it slows.

Thanks again

When you reboot it clears the memory and then starts over and after a while it slows and a reboot starts fresh again. As for the memory, go settings then applications then running services. It will say used and free, if 80 or less free that is no good.

119 used & 136 free, file manager is running something right now, I don't know what or why. seems like it should be ok.

That would not be your problem, though if have 136 free should be more like 80 something used? I had this kinda problem now thinking obout it, and switched to zeam launcher and has been great and using it for about a year now. For me if it ain't broke don't fix it! That might have something to do with your problem. Just throwing things out there!

I use the app FastReboot. It allows me to reboot my apps without rebooting my phone. That frees up everything and will eliminate your lag for awhile. When the phone starts to lag again just hit the FastReboot widget and your off to the races again. :D

My name is WetBiker7 and I approved this message! :p

Cwhatever, I like the if it ain't broke don't fix theory, I don't believe I have tried to change anything so I don't think that should be part of the problem. Do you mean if it launches just a little slow not to try to fix that?

Wetbiker7 thanks for that, I will probably try that sounds a little faster than the full reboot.

Not as related to OP my phone just told me there is an update for CTMod, it is CT3.80_SPH-M820.zip I don't think I want to do this yet, do I?

thanks

If its a little slow, I wouldn't worry about it, if way slow then something is causing it. I made a slimmed down setup with few apps and stuff and phone is super fast like that as compared to my full setup. I can just restore either at anytime, run slim during week and full on weekends. As for the update, you don't have to till ready to. It might help you out though. The worst is that you would have to resetup the entire phone with the update.
