Help Apps running when I havent used them and they are off?

Hi

I have Apps running when I havent used them and they are off?

i look in applications -- running services -- under running I have like:

facebook
maps
email

and others, some I can understand that they have to run but why them 3 I said, why cant they just run when I use them? I want to save my battery as much as possible etc

thanks for that a link will be great then I understand more I have come over from another model of phone that didnt use android so I need to know more
