My LG Boost phone won't allow me to open any apps I have had on my phone for the past 2 years. When I touch the screen nothing happens. My screen goes black for no reason.

From what you've written the simplest explanation would be that the touchsreen is broken. And if the touchscreen isn't working then the screen will go black because it is timing out due to lack of interaction.
The question is whether this is a software or a hardware problem, but without more information it's impossible to judge that (though I would guess hardware is more likely).
