Apps

Reading many of the post on various threads - you guys are far more advanced in usage on Android that I am with my very limited VM phone. The VM phone had limited space so I don't know all of the apps/tricks. I do not plan on rooting my N5. With that in mind, if you can suggest some apps that are "must have" for utilities/programs (briefly why it is a "must") and other cool apps to take full advantage of the N5.

Thanks!

What is a must have app for you may be a "who cares" app for me. Decide what you want to use your phone for (aside from making phone calls) and find apps that are good for those things. My wife and I have the same phone, bought at the same time, and we have almost totally different apps on them.

Which apps you run is a very personal thing. No one can really tell you which ones are best for you.

I understand that what someone thinks is a must may be junk to me. But my point is that my VM phone has limited space so I am not exposed to many of the apps as some others. Thus, just give me your personal viewpoint, I can filter on my own.

One of my favourite apps is Pocket. It's installed on my phone, tablet and PC.

It allows you to save any article, web page, youtube video from the web and puts it in your pocket so you can catch up with it whenever you want, wherever you are.

I'm sure there are other apps which do similar things, but since I found pocket it's become my most used app.

And Feedly for news. It's an Rss feed reader.

I use the Kindle App to do the same thing. I do all sorts of news clippings on a PC using LibreOffice and write it to a Microsoft Office file and then email it to Amazon and it shows up on all of my portable devices. Kindle also syncs where I left off on all of the devices and it has a nice web interface to manage your clippings.

The only Apps that I've installed on my wife's N5 is Talkatone (send/receive phone calls/texts over WiFi) and Yahoo Mail. I will most likely install more as she requests things on her phone but right now she's pretty happy with the things that she can do on it now. This is her first smartphone.

It's been a while, but I seem to remember having a browser extension or app called "send to kindle" which made that process a lot easier.

I don't have any to recommend since I'm new to Android as well, but I did want to request an app recommendation.

On iOS, I used Gas Cubby to track all my mpg, keep track of auto services, etc... It's not available on Android. I'd like to know if anyone recommends a particular app for this purpose?

One of my must haves is "out of milk". It's a grocery shopping list app. I can't forget my shopping list anymore! Lol

Two more that I use every day are "youversion bible" which has reading plans, devotionals and many translations. And "audible" which is a subscription audio book service.

Oh, and the android forums app :)

Lightflow is a nifty little app that you can use to set the color of the led notification light based on what the notification is for.

I used aCar for a while and it was pretty nice though I wish they would update the interface. Looks like Carango came out with a new interface though so I may switch to them.

I use mileage. It was recommended to me by a friend, I like it, very simple to use.

Ok, at first I was so enamored by the fact that the phone was so uncluttered. So I left it that way for a week. I had downloaded maybe 2 additional apps. Now a week later I've downloaded at least 10! hahaha what'd I get the big storage space for If I'm not gonna be the app HOG I am?!
