Root Apps2SD+ - some problems

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been posted. I've read so many FAQs and guides I'm not sure if the info I'm looking at is up to date, etc.

I'm having some problems with Apps2SD+.

Using SURoot's Guide to Rooting, I've rooted my Desire. I used unrevoked - with Amon Ra 2.0.1. I couldn't use Clockwork because I have PVT4 and my erase size is 40,000. (I tried the first time without fully reading the guide...ahem...and Clockwork simply wouldn't flash a custom ROM).

Using Amon Ra, I managed to successfully flash Gingervillain 1.3. I then proceeded to try to use Apps2SD+, using SURoot's guide:

http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/220627-faq-apps2sd-updated-17-02-11-a.html

Unfortunately I have several problems. The first is that GParted Live won't recognise my micro SD card - whether it is mounted in a card reader connected to my motherboard USB ports or in the phone itself (in Amon Ra recovery mode, with SD mount selected).

I thought I had gotten around this by using the partition tool in Amon Ra. I selected a 512mb EXT 2 partition, then 0mb swap, and Amon Ra told me that the partition was successful. However, upon rebooting the phone, nothing has changed - except that I have a slightly smaller SD card (6.9gb or so, compared to the 7.4gb when it was unpartitioned). The phone still reports internal memory as 150mb.

Acronis Disk Director Suite is telling me that I have two partitions on the card - a 6.9gb primary FAT32 partition and a 512mb ext 2 partition, also flagged as primary. Neither partition is tagged as anything other than primary.

After searching for a while, the only other thing I could find was a troubleshooting section somewhere (can't find the link, sorry) - which told me to run a test.sh script using GScript Lite. The only thing that told me was that Apps2SD+ wasn't working.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Total Internal memory reported does not change. "Quick system info" must be used to give a view of the a2sd stats

Gingervillain uses dark tremor a2sd which doesn't move dalvik cache automatically. You have to move in terminal emulator. This is mentioned in the first post of the gingervillain thread and instructions are also in the apps2sd+ faq.

Hope this helps

My faqs are up to date so you know ;)

Thanks (and for the quick reply, too) - much appreciated. (There's so much information to absorb I'm not surprised I missed a chunk...)

I'll have a go at using the terminal emulator and see what happens.

Yes it is a lot and some of it doesn't make sense until you're in a specific situation too, so I'm not surprised.

Moving dalvik will give you more internal memory free. Don't forget to get quick system info either

All done, and working perfectly. Feels great not to have to worry about internal memory.

Thanks for your help, and your very useful FAQs! I was able to get this far without posting, which I'm pretty pleased about. But a bit embarrassed that the final problem was so straightforward to fix :o
