Are all Nexus's unlocked?

I'm looking to buy a nexus, probably the s or the galaxy, And i'm wondering if all versions of them are unlocked or if some of them are for different carriers? Like, I see on craigslist, It says "verizon galaxy nexus" or somthing.
Does That mean The person was just using it on verizon, but you can choose any carrier you want? Or do they operate on different band widths or somthing?
Because I thought the only way you could buy it was unlocked.

Thanks in advance!:D

A Verizon Nexus is a CDMA device. In the US, there are two large CDMA carriers (Verizon/Sprint) - neither will active their competitor's device (nexus or not).

So, to answer your question, a Verizon Galaxy Nexus will only get activated on Verizon. A Sprint Galaxy Nexus will only get activated on Sprint.

A GSM Galaxy Nexus on the other hand is unlocked for use on any GSM carrier (in the US or overseas)
