ARLiberator first time connection procedure

whhsh

Lurker
Hi, folks!

This is my first post in these forums. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. The AR Liberator forums used to be at appradioforums.com, but it looks like someone must have let the domain expire, and it's now an ad site. This must have happened in the last week or so. Of course, I picked this week to buy a new phone (HTC One, and I love it so far!), but I need to know the procedure for connecting the phone the first time. My old HTC Evo 3D worked great, but I know there's a special setup procedure the first time around.

Does anyone have the old instructions sitting around? Does anyone know what happened to the Appradio forums and whether they're ever coming back?

Thanks in advance!
Amy

Here you go.. Good Luck

What's the initial connection sequence/initial setup procedure needed to get ARL working?
1) Start the car. Do NOT have anything plugged into the phone, and do NOT have ARL running.
2) Press "OK" to the on-screen safety prompt at startup.
3) Establish the BT pairing between the phone and head unit WITHOUT plugging in the phone, and without ARL running.
4) Start ARL.
5) Plug in all necessary cables, adapters, and power supplies.
6) Force BT connection using the HU from the Bluetooth menu, and accept any pairing requests on the phone.
7) Wait for BT alert (the request to share contacts), approve the exchange, and be sure to select the "always allow" checkbox or you will have to delete the Bluetooth connection from both the phone and the head unit and repeat this procedure from the Step 3. Be prompt with approval as it can cause the connection to break. If the connection is broken, delete the Bluetooth connection from both the phone and the head unit and repeat this procedure from the Step 3.
8) Complete the initial calibration (this should not be required after the first time).
9) Use the head unit as though it were your phone!

What's the connection sequence needed to get ARL working after initial setup?

2) Start ARL with bluetooth
3) Start the car.
4) Press "OK" to the on-screen safety prompt at startup.
5) Press the Android icon when it is highlighted. If you press it before it turns green, or when the phonebook is being transferred (a text bubble appears next to the Android icon), you may get an additional prompt. Note that the larger your phonebook is (this includes anyone you've ever emailed with your Google account, regardless of whether they are a saved contact), the longer this phonebook transfer takes.
6) Wait for the microbypass to take effect (if applicable), and press "OK" to allow for the phone display to come through.
7) Use the head unit as though it were your phone!

If these are completed out of order, the connection may not be as seamless. You may be required to manually select the phone again in the head unit's Bluetooth menu, and/or then touch the screen when viewing the phone's display output to force the connection to complete (you may see the finger and red "x" when doing this for a moment before the connection completes).

Thank you so much! I'm still mourning the loss of those forums and hoping the developer will find another home. As it is, the link from the Google Play store goes to a non-working site. ARLiberator is a great app and I want to see it thrive.

Thanks again!!

Yeah I do too, but it sounded like the creator had some health issues or something earlier this year. I had to trace out Pm I had with link which I found luckily.. as I would like to find a permanent solution for my car, many were starting to use a mini dongle PC with android installed..

I was following the progress of this app, and was waiting for it to work with the Appradio 3. So I could get the latest headunit, but yesterday I checked the forum, but now it's gone.

Are there any alternatives to this app, that work with the latest head units and phones? This was exactly what I wanted, but I want it to be supported.

I don't know of any other apps like ARLiberator, I'm afraid. It's a shame Pioneer didn't just hire the developer to make the app what it should have been from the beginning.

I'm curious to check out Appradio 3. Here's hoping the HW/SW integration gets even better.

Thanks for this but can you clarify something for me?

What do you mean by " 2. Start ARL with bluetooth"
Does that just mean start the ARL app on the phone?

Thanks again

With the developer M.I.A. is it worth investing in an appradio2 and the arliberator app at this point? I've seen video of it working and it looks great, but I'm a noob when it comes to rooting and this type of connection. Should I even bother. Any feedback from experienced users would be appreciated.

I just installed the new avh-x8500bhs and purchased the arliberator and it is working fine. I tried it with Android 4.2.2 and 4.3. No problems.

I had sent the developer an email a couple of weeks ago using the "Email Developer" link in the Google Play store. I got an email response from him just yesterday. He was having health problems, as it turns out, but he's on the road to recovery. Also, he's in the process of getting the forums back up.

I can understand your hesitation to spend the money on the hardware and the app if it looks like support may be lacking. Perhaps wait until the forums are back or contact the developer from the link in Google Play store.

That is great news!!! Road to recovery and arliberator is back online.
