The wife & I just got back from Arlington, TX this past weekend. We rented a car (Camry) and took off on down the highway! It was a fun drive and I enjoyed myself while there. We went to see my nephew and his wife. They have been living there around 20 yrs now.

The wife hasn't drove this far before and when we reached the 40 mile mark of our destination, she was ready to turn around and come back home!
Google maps show it's about 10.5 hour drive and I guess she thought 10 hrs would be like 5 hrs.

Since I was driving, we continued on and when we reached our nephew house, she was still upset but finally calmed down.

All in all she came around and enjoyed herself also.

Oh, Arlington--I know it well! We lived in the North Dallas area, and had friends in Arlington. Glad you had a good time.

Texas is huge. I live in The Colony, and it takes 30 minutes just to get into Dallas, and 30 more into Downtown Dallas, around the same to Arlington. 5 hours to San Antonio.

2 hours to get into Oklahoma (to gamble ).

When we drive to Mexico, leaving at 6AM in the morning, we don't get into the border until the next day at around 1-2AM.

Never been to Arlington or Dallas (except at the airport), but San Antonio is one of the prettiest cities I have ever seen, and Houston is just really big and fancy (so big I got lost).
Years ago, I drove through the entire width of Texas non stop on the way to Miami, and I felt like we would NEVER get through that state!

Thanks all. I've driven through Texas a few times from LA to St. Louis, and it does take a whole day just to drive through it. This was my first time visiting someone who live there.

Yes the wife wanted to goto the Casino but 2 hrs is too far to drive and back, so we didn't go. But she did find a couple of bingo halls to visit.

When I was in culinary school, I had an externship (they called it that, but basically an internship) in northern California. Well, wanted to have a car while I was there so we drove out from Ohio! Since it was December we decided to go the southern route to avoid the snow. Drove through MO, OK, TX, NM and AR. On the way back, we went through NV, UT, CO, KS, MO, IL and IN.
Took us I believe 4 days each way. Trips of a lifetime to be honest. Had a blast with how much I got to see.
We wore out the CDs I had to listen to, but other than that, we survived.

My drives were with my sister and mother, separately.
If I have to do it with my wife, I'd probably make a slight detour...... of a cliff!

I'm not sure but 40 miles out and you want to turn around, well drop me off first and she can drive herself back. I could barely get her to drive at all.
