Assign notification tone to gmail

Hi all. Is it possible to get my Note 9 to sound a specific tone when I receive an email (Gmail app) - this is different to the general notification tone. Thank you.

Hi Mark, yes, open your Gmail app, scroll down to "Settings' tap and go to to 'Manage notifications', tap on 'Sound' to choose your sound from the list.

:)
Thanks Tommo. I have just tried this, and it does work. But the same sound appears on the other notifications such as sms. I was after a separate sound for emails only

If you changed Gmail's sound to something other than default, it should now have a different sound than SMS. Unless SMS happens to have the same sound assigned to it.

Go into System Settings and find your list of apps; mine is under 'Apps & notifications | App info.' Find 'messages' and see if its sound is the same as Gmail's; if it is, change it.

If I've completely misunderstood, let me know! :D

If I goto messages, settings, notifications, general notifications, it says under sound part "Yoda" - this is the file I want for sms. But it is NOT the sound it plays, what does play is the sound I want for emails. In fact, all my notifications such as weather updates etc play the email sound. Something is wrong somewhere!

In my Gmail app, the tone assigned is the one I want for emails. But it seems to have applied this is a default for all notifications, despite what the messages app says in settings

ok so i do not know if it is different or not, but on my note 10+ the way to change notification sounds is as follows:
gmail>settings>select your gmail account and not general settings>manage notifications>sound

uder general settings>manage notifications you get options on what to be notified and there is no sound option.

what happens if you change the overall notifiaction sound?

The issue seems to be with messages. No matter which tone I set, and no matter which tone is actually checked with the blue dot button, it will play the default, which is now my preferred email tone

Before I do that, can you tell me which folder and where are the pre installed tones? If I could move the two files I downloaded to that folder...?

Or just install Zedge from the play store and download and assign sounds per app, no reset needed
Based on the OP's comments:

"In fact, all my notifications such as weather updates etc play the email sound. Something is wrong somewhere!"

and:

"The issue seems to be with messages. No matter which tone I set, and no matter which tone is actually checked with the blue dot button, it will play the default, which is now my preferred email tone"

I don't think that will help. It sounds like something has somehow gone wonky on his device.

@Mark Touhig, you might want to give this a try, to see if you can get things back to normal:

System Settings | Apps & notifications | Notifications | Notifications | [3-dot menu] | Reset app preferences

Your path may vary, but should be similar.

If you try it, let us know its results.
