I'm trying to figure out how to assign a ringtone for text messages, so when a certain contact sends me a text... I hear their custom ringtone instead of the notification sound.

Assign ringtones to contacts for text?

I don't believe this is a feature on the stock texting app. But if you tried something like handcent, chomp or go sms I believe they all have that feature to assign custom tones per contact. At least I know handcent does as i have been using that.
