I use Assist only for the text to speech while i am driving. Sometimes it works and most times it doesnt. The phone knows i am driving because i can see it in the notifications bar but still assist doent work.

I have location settings on and i dont use any app killers or anything like that. Anyone know whats the deal with assist?

Is your phone connected to your car (or any device) via bluetooth?

My car connects via bluetooth and calls work flawlessly, however I loose text capabilities because the phone wants to send it via media mode on the car stereo, which is not compatible with the text mode on the Moto X.

This may or may not be your problem, but if I am not connected via bluetooth it works fine.

There may be a solution to this problem. In the Assist app, tap "Driving", then tap the arrow to the right of "Talk to me". There is a link at the bottom: "Having audio issues using Bluetooth?" Tap that and try using "Alternate audio channel".

This solved the problem using BT and the Assist reading function (as well as Google Maps navigation prompts) in my car.

Is there any chance that the texts that aren't working are actually MMS messages? I'm not 100% sure, but it may be that they can be read back to you. Group messages are usually MMS messages, even if they are plain text. Some texts that I get from iPhone users are maddeningly plain text that are converted to graphics and sent as MMS messages.

I will give this a try, thank you sir, sorry it was not a direct assistance to the OP. That said OP, did you set up your assist driving "talk to me" settings?

I am testing these solutions thanks for the replies. I also have another nuisanse problem. When I am listening with my bluetooth headset and I recieve a call, the music keeps playing. My old phone would pause the music and resume automatically.
