Anyone have AW or know anyone who dose?

Are the free plan 250talk 250 text. phones different then the pay for unlimited talk/text/data plan phones?

what type do they send people for there free phones?

The FAQs says no Android's. But there should be away around that. just put the SIM (my case a micro SIM card) in a unlocked phone.

If you get the unlimited plan it has data you would want to use a smartphone for that!! I do!

The phone I would want to try out is the LG L70, I'd just need to get it unlocked first.

Thanks.

Looking at their website, is this a very low cost carrier for people who might be on walfare or special needs. Basically just to provide a phone to make phone calls and send SMS with, NO data.

If there's no SIM, two reason's possibly...
1) There is a SIM, but it's hard-wired and sealed inside the basic phones they supply.
2) More likely, it runs on Virgin Mobile's network, which is CDMA, there is no SIM and the service is locked to the phone's ESN, and cannot be changed.

So no Android, no iPhone, no Blackberry.

Exactly.. it's for people that can't afford to pay for service So they give you a basic, nothing special, candy bar form phone with almost no ability but to send text and call.

Just thought I would let people know that my son got a phone from them and it IS an android phone. Touchscreen and all. JFYI :)

Thanks. What type is it?
I heard lately aw have been smartphones or something like it.

I have seen other free lifeline comp. Have smartphones. Even BYOD/use your own unlocked smartphone. And they well send you a free sim for there program.
Just they did not have Oregon on the list. Darn it!!

Is it an android 2.2 phone? :)
I can't see them springing for the up to date models..
Then again, it doesn't come out of their pockets.

Thing is the candybar dumb-phones are not far off extinct now. So they might as well give you a budget, probably Chinese Android phone as give you a dumb-phone. The costs can be so low for some basic Android devices, and there's so many of them. You're still not getting any data with it AFAIK, and have to use it on Wifi if you want internet. And you still can't change it for a different phone yourself on their service.

No not going to get much. But its only for talk and text. Dont need much.

Weird thing is the $30. Plan you also get data, wby would u want a candybar for that? You would want a bigger and better looking screen. Kind of odd lol.

Welcome to Android Forums, tdawg1978. :)
Just to start over, what's your goal? Are you looking to try the L70 on a low cost service? Perhaps try it on Virgin Mobile first and see if you like it?

AW.. uses Sprint for service.
so no SIM.

you can get data... but then they can charge your account for the usage. it aint cheap.
so android phones can be used... but data is pay as you go if you get it from the carrier network. WIFI is always free from carrier charges.
