Astro and SMB Connection

I'm having a problem connecting Astro with the SMB plugin to my LAN shares.

I have Windows 7 and a Droid X, running 2.2, stock/rooted.

I have no problem connecting to my LAN shares using estrongs.

Estrong settings are as follows:
Server: 192.168.1.102/Droid X
username: myname
password: mypassword

Astro settings are as follows:
Server: 192.168.1.102
Share: Droid X
Domain: blank
Directory: blank
username: myname
password: mypassword

When I try to connect with astro, I get a server not found error and if I click details it says jcifs.smb.smbexception: failed to connect and then some more stuff and down at the bottom it says invalid payload size: 405.

Seems pretty simple to me, so I can't figure out why it isn't working.

Any ideas?

I'm using Astro's SMB sharing with no problems with a Win7 and an XP system. It's fast and reliable. My setup is similar to yours. I'm guessing that your share name with the space might be causing problems. Mine don't have spaces. Did you try the Test button? Maybe it will give you some better info?

Test gives me the same error.

I then created a share called droid and it didn't work in astro and did work in estrong.

Anyone have any other ideas? This should be easy.

I saw that somewhere, tried it and it didn't work.

I did email astro support, but doubt I hear back.

Any other ideas?

Perhaps a breakthrough!

I just tried connecting to a share on my .104 desktop Windows 7 PC and that worked.

Maybe some sort of firewall or port blocking issue on my .102 laptop?

Still doesn't work with the windows firewall turned off though.

The desktop is via ethernet cable and the laptop is via wireless.

Still doesn't work if I connect the laptop via Ethernet cable directly to router.

What else to try then?

Which Windows 7 are you using? SMB cannot connect to the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

It's all odd. I've given up. Can't figure it out. I'll just stick with estrongs. That has no problems at all connecting to any of my shares on any of my PCs.

Astro definitely connected to my Win 7 64 bit shares though. That's the one PC is worked easiest on.

In another thread the user's solution for Astro setting was a "/" behind the server IP :)

Harry

Makes no difference if I add a \ or / after the server name. Also, if you "Edit" the settings, you'll see that Astro deletes the slash in the config. Further, my working connections use no slash in the server name.

I've tried both IP address and Windows host and workgroup names. Both work for connections to my laptop and NAS, but neither work for the connection to my desktop.

I gave up. Astro just sucks with networking with certain setups.

If ES File Explorer worked for me, I'd give up on Astro too. But ... ES can't connect to my Win7 Pro x64 desktop either.

Astro connects just fine to my Win7 HP x64 laptop and my D-Link DNS-323 NAS. Laptop and NAS connect just fine to my desktop.

Try File Expert. I think the dev spams the forums with it here, but the app isn't bad and does support SMB.

If that doesn't work too, it could be something on your end.

I already figured I'd previously tightened security on my desktop and can't remember what I did. But I tried File Expert anyway, and it couldn't connect to my laptop *or* my desktop. So I didn't bother trying with the NAS. It looks like a nice app, but Astro and ES connect just fine to my laptop at least, so File Expert is gone.....

Thanks anyway. If I ever find a solution for Astro, I'll post back. :)

Hello everyone. Please be patient with me because this maybe a long post.

Anyway, I can use ES File Manager to browse my network files (This is while I'm connected to my network through wifi) and Im pretty sure I can do the same with Astro (haven't tried) I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Now really I dont care about accessing it locally as much as I want to be able to access this stuff OUTSIDE the network. Now, ES File manager allows me to, ONLY if I have a VPN connection established. Problem with that is I can get logged in the root folder, but the moment I try and go any further than that it tells me there was a login failure as if I had retyped the login and pass wrong. I'm pretty sure this is a encryption or permission compatibility problem between the SMB and Windows 7.

Now with Astro, I think I'm actually close to solving this problem, but I get an error that says:

jcifs.smb.SmbException: Failed to connect to server java.net.
UnknownHostExceptions: ..
_MSBROWSE_.<01>

Settings:

Server: /dynamicDns/Computer name
Share Drive letter:\
Domain: name of workgroup
Directory:
and of course my name and password

If anyone has gotten any further or accomplished what I've been trying to do for awhile PLEASE!!!!!! help and take the stress from my brain. I'm pretty sure its something so simple, but its going over my head. Thanks in advance

jcifs.smb.client.useExtendedSecurity = false

Once I added this, I was able to connect to all of my Mac samba shares just fine!

Astro used to be my favorite but didn't connect to my LAN after upgrade of astro.
changed it for ES file manager who found all my shared windows in seconds :-)
ES works perfectly with windows 7 64bit for me.
