Asus shows off new 1080p prime

Personally, I don't care. It's not like anyone can see a difference between 720P and 1080P on a 10" screen. The only thing that would piss me off is if they drop the price on the TF201 right away.

The front-facing camera now runs at 2-megapixels, instead of 1.3, and the rear panel has been redesigned to enhance WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS performance. Still, the TF700T should fit into the same keyboard/battery dock as the existing Transformer Prime. Otherwise it

Just take a look at how clear text is on a Galaxy Nexus, Rezound, or other 720p phone. I think the bump to 1080p on a tablet would have the same effect and be very desirable.

Technology moves fast. I get that... but seriously? I mean, the TF201 isn't even stocked on store shelves yet because of the backorders. Will they just skip the TF201 in favor of the new model? I'm guessing they might... especially since they designed it to work with the same keyboard dock.

Bah. I want to wait for the new one, but I also don't want to have no tablet again for another three months... :(

<<We can’t imagine early-adopters of the existing Prime are going to be too happy, frankly.>>

Nope...what a buzz kill!

This pisses me off. This whole experience has been crap and my Prime is only going to be DELIVERED today. The ordering experience, GPS and WiFi problems...........and now they tell us a newer/better version is to be released.

While I don't love this new development, I'll bite the bullet, continue to love my Prime, realistically expect this new Prime to be delayed slightly and come out later than expected, and then knowing myself, just buy the new one too.

Meh - sounds like it's coming out in Q2 and considering the issues with the release of the prime, I'm guessing that's a real conservative estimate. I'd be miffed if it was on its way in 2 weeks, but you can't expect your tech to be top of the line for more than a couple months in any circumstance. Good on ASUS for addressing the issues, and hopefully adding even more cred to the transformer namesake

Interesting, though, that they'd be so eager to announce this before the TFP really hit shelves. I'm assuming it's going to scare one or two customers off.

I've been trying to order this tablet since it was released and still plan to buy it. GPS is a non-issue for me and from everything I've seen, the screen is so good on the current model it's not really worth another $100 just to browse and watch movies on the go.

I think I've decided to never be an early adopter again. I love my prime but comparing screens with the nexus I'm disappointed. I wonder how much the higher resolution will slow it down. I may wait for chipsets to be designed for the higher resolution.

Do I understand correctly that they're ditching the metal back in order to improve radio signals for wifi/gps/bluetooth?

If so, I wonder if we'd be able to swap-out our metal backs...

They added a plastic like strip along the top of the back where the radios reside I believe... the rest is still aluminum (though not the nice looking spun type that is on our TF201). You won't be able to swap the back out... the new tablet probably has some slightly different internals anyway given the new screen.

If only Seidio or some other accessory manufacturer would make plastic backs for the prime, I'd buy it if the signals improved.

I don't want to tick any current owners off, but it seems to me that Asus may really be trying to push this newer model as a marketing tool.

Your feedback (current owners) has been very valuable.

Now Asus can say, "Look, we listened to our customers, and we are improving our product. And look how quickly we did it!"

Spin Doctors!

I continue to follow this forum; all of your input is great.

Doh! ASUS why you little! Not much difference as far as I can see. Just the screen. As I'm getting older I won't see a difference anyways. As long as it takes as long as the padphone to be released it should not be a problem.

Face it.. They knew about the Primes wireless issues.. GPS and Wifi. The rumors of WiFi delay were out before release. They knew about it, ignored it and released it. Im sure the math was done on which would be more profitable. Recall them or delay and fix the issues ,or push the flawed design out in time for optimal Christmas sells. In the meantime lets get the improved design going.

The screen does not bother me however..

"rear panel has been redesigned to enhance WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS performance"

This is very telling of what has happend. I think my assessment above is probably not far off. They probably already had an improved shell before the current Prime shipped.

Now it will be interesting to see how many people try to pretend that this is not what happened.

I had already returned two of our three Primes due to the GPS and was holding on to one just to have but #3 is boxed up and ready for return.

I have a 7 day return window and my prime should be here tomorrow.

I feel as though Asus have screwed Transformer Prime owners over too many times now, they sold us a flawed product and offer us who planned to stick with it nothing! Even Nintendo offered compensation for people who bought their 3DS before the price drop.

This is worse than that situation (Prices drop, that's acceptable - Flawed devices are unacceptable!) they have basically just used the TF201 as a Beta device and the TF700T is a finished product.

Cheers Asus! I hope your business is forever dented from all the **** ups you have made recently.. unless of course you can offer people something to make the TF700T sting a little less?

How does one go about returning a transformer prime to best buy? Should I even bother opening mine when it comes in tomorrow to see if it has any problems?

Wtf!!! Do they have any idea what I went through to get this tablet?!! Somebody's head is gonna roll for this!! Asus had better offer the a replacement for everyone that bought the prime!!!!!!!!
