ASUS Transformer Prime Delayed Until Next Year Over WiFi Issues? (No, but supply may be limited)

My BestBuy order still says release date is 12/18 but that can be so loosely interpreted.

Street date could be 12/18 but that doesn't mean we all will get it that date or even have it get shipped that date. I really have no faith in BestBuy but 6 more days till we may or may not find out more.

FWIW I just got a backorder notice from J&R. I'm not sure if that's because today was supposed to be the day for online orders or what. They don't give any estimated dates, just that they don't have it in stock and it's on order. Doesn't really change anything one way or the other, we'll still have to wait until next week to see if they show up anywhere or not.

Several sources quote Asus as saying that "shipments will start on the 19th of December." I wonder what shipments they're referring to. That is, do they mean shipping from Taiwan (or wherever it's made), or from vendors such as Amazon? Any guesses on who's shipping what and when and to whom?

ASUS actually stated they were still planning to ship during the week of 12/19.

Not seeing how anyone can assume they will get one on 12/19.

My Best Buy order status still shows a ship date of 12/18 too. No backorder notification yet.

Now if I could only find a grey keyboard for the Prime.

Best Buy, New Egg, Tiger Direct, Game Stop, Amazon, J&R......none of them are taking pre-orders. I've tried all day to pre-order one so I could have it under the tree on the 25th. This was to be MY Christmas present. I am so bummed. Please have it in the stores the week of the 19th. I'll camp for one of these devices.

I think your main preoccupation will be yelling at BB for giving you a wrong date ;)

At least you are preodered, so have a great shot of getting it no later than January. Others will not.

Talked with a fairly big online retailer, whose taking pre-orders and was told the prime would be shipped to "Them" on Dec. 30 !

So it's anyone's guess as to an actual date !

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but: Per Newegg

ASUS TF201-B1-GR Transformer Prime - Gray NVIDIA Tegra 3 1.30GHz 10.1" Wide XGA 1GB Memory DDR2 32GB Flash HDD Integrated Graphics

Out of stock ETA 12/27/2011

Looks like no primes 'til after first of the year ! Crap !

So, how exactly is this unexpected? We know ASUS said they would ship the week of Dec 19. Maybe it takes all those days for stock to arrive and be sorted at the stores that are selling the device? Newegg's date is Estimated Date of Arrival.

The fun posts will be from the more insular ones who have it in their mind in spite of all apparent logic, that they actually will get one next week- yet alone 12/19.

Jeeprs, them will be some goood' posts next week :)

Still say there is a dumb & dumber chance of some folks getting a Prime in December.

You would think a company as big as Asus would have someone monitoring forums like this to take the temperature of potential buyers of their products and respond accordingly. I'm a member of other forums (cars etc.) and there are members that work for aftermarket parts suppliers that monitor and help in any way they can in situations like this.

HEY ASUS, IF YOU ARE HERE PLEASE GIVE US SOME INFORMATION.

Either way I'm getting an Asus tablet be it an orignal Transformer or a Prime.

My worry is they aren't giving information, because they don't have anything that will be accurate. I am going to be a little upset with best buy if it's significantly delayed. It still says the "release date" is 12/18/11, you'd think they'd have some idea within 4 days of the release date.

Called my local Bestbuy to see when they would have the Prime in stock, since the 19th has been tossed around as the date available @ retailers, and got, "We're not showing anything at all on the Asus Transformer Prime" !

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime Tablet Champaign (32GB) #TF201-B1-CG - Expansys USA

These guys are taking pre-orders. Not sure if it is for the firs shipment or not.
I put my preorder in through them this morning. I'm hoping that they will be on the first wave of shipments. I'm mainly a bit nervous that there will be waits of several months like I remember hearing about with the original Transformer. I have a conference I'm going to in April, and I'm REEEEEEALLY hoping that I'll have the tablet (preferably with the dock) by then.

Wow. If Asus can't meet the demand by April, then they might as well get out of the tablet market and surrender to Apple and Samsung. Bottom line, as filled with uncertainty this launch has been, I think you can be confident that you'll have a Prime by April. The only thing I can see that would prevent that would be some major mass hardware failure causing delays and recalls.

Found this today. It is encouraging if true. Dated Dec, 10th.

ASUS puts delay rumor to rest, confirms Transformer Prime is on schedule - SlashGear

Here is another article dated yesterday:
http://www.gadgetell.com/technology...e-release-will-happen-during-the-week-of-dec/

Now to pre-order from Expansys USA (seems to be the only place to pre-order at this time) or take my chances that it will make it to a brick and mortar store next week.

EDIT- The hell with it I just pre-ordered from Expansys USA. Come on Asus - don't let us down!!!!!!!

Thanks for the links. It's hard to say any of that is in anyway official, but some how i'm encouraged.

Mad at BB? How is it their fault or issue? If your gonna be mad, be mad at Asus playing games and being mostly mute & certainly vague on the topic.

i placed my pre-order for a 32 and 64gb model (had a $20 dollar off coupon) at expansys-usa this morning. I like everyone else hopes this comes out next week...I am so stoked. I still have my iconia to hold me over though...:)

WiFi issue details in actual detail by a credible source

AnandTech - ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime Review Part II: Battery Life & More

"I'm on my third Transformer Prime. The original sample was almost completely broken when it came to wireless connectivity. I had very little range on the integrated WiFi and performance typically hovered around 0.5Mbps, sometimes reaching as high as 2Mbps. "

"ASUS overnighted me a second Transformer Prime; this one was tested at ASUS in California before making its way out to me. As I published earlier, I had issues with the second sample and any Apple wireless access points (Time Capsule or Airport Extreme). Using a Netgear AP I saw 16Mbps pretty consistently, but I could only get ~32Mbps if the tablet was at the right orientation with respect to the AP. ASUS' HQ eventually conceded that there might have been a problem with the second WiFi antenna on pre-production review samples"

"Aluminum does a fairly good job of attenuating RF signals, which contributes to worse range on WiFi than the original plastic Eee Pad Transformer. WiFi performance at the edge of reception as well as the maximum usable WiFi range are both noticeably lower than its predecessor. I'm still finalizing our tablet WiFi range tests to be able to quantify some of this stuff, but it's safe to say that if you were at the edge of WiFi coverage on the original Transformer, the Prime won't be any better."
