I can testify to the "no hassle" part of the 14-day return. That Moto E with the bad screen that I sent back - I had unlocked the bootloader, technically voiding the warranty. But I was still able to return it (the full story is in the Moto E/Root forum). I don't recommend pushing the envelope - I'm not going to root a device right out the box again! But it's nice to know that Moto didn't use rooting as an excuse to deny an actual hardware issue (within the 14 days, at least!).
