Quick question, i've just installed cyanogenmod 10.1 for some 4.2.2 action. Will updating it in the update provided in the about menu erase all my settings and icon skins?

If you mean the OTA update, then either yes, or it will not install if you have a custom recovery. Just update with a custom rom.

Understood, I do have a custom recovery. If I update with a custom rom ie the new cyanogenmod build will it erase all my settings? Or only if I select "wipe/factory reset" in recovery mode?

I'm asking because I installed the latest nightly, and want to keep up on them but I don't want to have to resign in to everything, redownload apps, setup my launcher again, change all the icon graphics etc..

So, I tried the update to see what would happen. I updated through setting - about - cyanogenmod updates

This updated to the latest nightly, (17) and worked flawlessly. I didn't even have to flash it manually, it loaded itself.
And, as an added bonus all my settings are the same! Icons, email, wifi.

Just in case someone else wants to know
