Root [AT&T] Easy guide to rooting?

So I'm interested rooting my ATT ONe X and installing a custom ROM with some mods but I've looked through XDA and other sites and the process looks incredibly complicated. Maybe I just don't understand some of the language? I'm not on the same tech-level as the guys on that site and some on here but I mean I can manage pretty well with good, easy to follow instructions.

I have rooted my Atrix and Captivate in the past but I've never messed with the bootloader, or custom ROMS. Just rooting.

Does anyone have a link to an easy to follow guide to rooting and getting a ROM? I'm guessing from what I've read that I'll have to unlock the bootloader to get a ROM.

I'm interested as well. I tried for about 3 hours and had no luck. Had no issues doing my EVO a couple years ago.

I don't have a XL as I have the international version but I found this.

i was trying as well (and failed but did not brick) then i asked on xda and it seems that Android 4.0.4 -which i have is not root'able yet.
