Root [AT&T] Find right ruu

kkpanu9

Lurker
So I have an AT&T htc one m7. The former owner changed many things including the CID to root it and make it a google play edition but I changed the CID back to CWS__001. I am trying to change the phone back to stock by installing the stock ruu but I don't know which one to use. Also is it ok if it is s on and boot loader unlocked.

Specs

Android version 4.4.2
Kernel version 3.4.10-g7fe1bad root@abm012 #1
Build number KOT49H.H1
Hboot 1.54
Radio 4t.21.3218.21

The latest AT&T RUU that is available is 4.4.2/Sense 5.5. You can download it here.

I haven't seen an RUU for the latest Sense 6 version that AT&T started pushing OTA this past week. But once you RUU, you should be able to receive & install the OTA, assuming you're on the AT&T network.

However, be aware there have been some problems reported with this particular RUU. For some people, including myself, the RUU failed to install. I had to RUU down to JB4.3 then take the OTAs to KK. But you would need to be S-OFF to do that.

Also, if you are S-ON w/ an unlocked bootloader you will not be able to run any RUU. You will need to relock the bootloader or go S-OFF. Since the device was converted to GPE, it was S-OFF at some point. So I would recommend going that way again. Even if you don't intend to do most of the things S-OFF allows you to do, it gives you more options when wanting to upgrade or if you need to troubleshoot a problem and resort to an older version.

OK so I am still eligible for the warranty from att. Will they complain if I send this device in the way it is.

I'd be surprised if you have any warranty as a second owner. It's likely if you try and send the phone in with a user installed prollem that they will not do anything for you.

As i said in your other thread:
fastboot getvar all results (remove esn, meid, imie)

Re-s off if the phone is functional

I don't know how to s-off. Is there some command I can enter?

So can I not use that link you sent me unless I S-off? Also where is the RUU you used for JB4.3 as I don't want to risk the same problem that happened to you.

Since your phone is on 4.4.2, you should be able to use the RUU in the link I provided while remaining S-ON but you would have to relock your bootloader. With S-ON you can only use RUUs that are the same or newer versions of what is currently on the device. But your bootloader must also be locked.

The issue of installing the 4.4.2 RUU that I ran into had nothing to do with version or lock status. Just some weird issues that I never found out exactly what it was.

If you want to use the JB4.3 RUU, you will have to S-OFF. Since you are on HBOOT 1.54, you should be able to use Firewater to S-OFF. But be aware if you are successful in using the 4.4.2 RUU before going S-OFF, it will update your HBOOT to 1.56 and it may be more difficult to gain S-OFF at that point.
