Root [AT&T] Help, with s3 rooting, probably dumb question

my friend wants to unlock the carrier and root his s3 sch530u (us cellur). imtrying to help him since he cant figure it out. i live in florida and he lives in NC.

first question does the s3 have a locked bootloader?

second question. does the sprint rooting method work for the s3 us cellur bersion?

I was able to root my Verizon one with one-click since I only got it a couple months ago and development is strong for it.
The OP there recommends following the AT&T directions.
