Root [AT&T] How many Roots end up as Bricks?

Chasoscar

Newbie
Just Wondering? I have never rooted a phone and my SGN2 was a major investment for me(coming from a Tracfone ;o). Although Ive done my homework as far as reading goes and Im pretty good following directions, I am still a little freaked out about rooting my phone. Seems like it is a pretty straight forward operation if all the steps are followed, but Im still a little worried about something bad happening.
My question to the members here is...... of all the phones that members here have 'rooted', how many have had bad experiences.....i.e. Bricks.
Thanks for your input and any advice!

Hello and hooray for Note 2 I just got mines yesterday as well and I can say that if you use the 1 click method its easy I used it and I been using Android since 2010 and the roots get easier but to the point I think the chances are low but you can never say it wont happen cause i used to have an Evo and I made a boo boo but it was fixable with patience and all the great members here :) goodluck and I am not sure if i can post the link so to be safe I will say Google (galaxy note 2 root 1 click) and its a 1 click method takes like 30 secs easy as pie

Thanks for your post.
The only one I saw was this one for the Verizon version.... will it also work on the ATT version without a problem.

It's very hard to actually truly brick a device.

Just make sure you read, reread, ask questions here, and then take the plunge when you feel comfortable. After having a rooted device I will never own another one that isn't rooted.

I have done alot of reading and dont plan on making any changes until I feel sure of what I am doing. The thing that confuses me the most is the numerous custom Roms that are available, whether I should even use a custom rom and if so, which ones are best without losing access to features. That seems to be the source of most of the problems or complaints, and it seems that each custom rom has its own set of quirks. I was hoping someone might recommend some of the best Roms for the ATT version.
One other thing, I know we are expecting a new JB update(4.1.2) soon- would rooting cause problems for the update?
Thanks for any suggestions

You would lose root if you accept an official OTA update. But I think there is an app called OTA Root keeper that saves it.

Generally, you dont want to accept an ota while rooted.

All you have to do is either flash the update files or flash a custom rom that includes the updates baked in. Both will be provided by developers after the update
