Root [AT&T] New Rooter

I used GalaxyS3Root(dot)com's fail/noob-proof tutorial to root my phone. Process was simple and easy. Where I started to mess up was when I started trying to use different ROMs.

I first used Ultimatum and it was fine but I wanted to see what it was like to do a complete overhaul, so I used ROM Manager (first mistake?) to try and install CM10 Nightlies. An error ensued and I eventually got out of it and was able to completely unroot my phone, using GalaxyS3Root(dot)com again.

After clearing everything out and basically starting anew (because my save didn't take) I tried using the S3 stock and was having network connection issues. When trying to call my voicemail it would say not registered on network, and if it went to setting and about phone, it would say that the mobile network was disconnected. Every now and then it would connect for a second but eventually go out again.

After google'ing like crazy, I thought maybe I messed up my AT&T profile or changed a number/setting when I was moving through ROMs (maybe I didn't clear everything approrpiately?) So I re-rooted, re-installed CM10 Nightlies (and it actually worked this time) and my service is better, but still in and out (which might be a network issue as my gf is having issues as well)

Sorry so long winded, just trying to get all the information out there as hopefully someone can help.

Has anyone else had this issue? Or know of a remedy to fix a network issue after Rooting/Unrooting? I'd like to go back to stock, as this whole process has scared the sh*t out of me, but I want to make sure I clear delvic/proccesses/cache and do whatever I need to do to make it work.

I've looked on XDA and everyone speaks to people as though we all speak the same tech language. I'm hoping for a little plainspeak on this site as I'm a complete Android Noob.

Thanks Again

It seems to me as if you deleted your IMEI, which, i think, you have to have backed up to be able to fix it. On xda there are a few tools that allow you to back it up, but i really do not know if they will be of much help to you.

this is why i haven't jumped into rooting yet. what kind of things should be made aware of to avoid something like this from happening?

I flashed CM10 nightly (9/15) last night with CWM and had no issues losing my IMEI (maybe I was lucky). It works beautifully and the battery life is spectacular compared to the stock SGS3 ICS I had before.

Here's a tutorial I bookmarked last night about backing up the IMEI or if your IMEI is coming up as 0. I thought I might need it since I plan to flash the nightlies a few more times. Maybe it'll help. [Tutorial] IMEI - Backup NV with QPST - US Variants - Galaxy S III - RootzWiki

Good luck and please post how you solved the issue (I'm still learning, and the forums are a big help) :)

Yea the IMEI issue is not a frequent problem but some people have had it. They said a patch from a while back was supposed to fix it but i dont know if they are sure about that. Backing up and restoring the IMEI now seems to be a pretty simple process, just to be safe.
