AT&T: New Six Strikes Antipiracy Policy In Effect Nov 28, 2012

AT&T has joined forces with Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner and other businesses that provide internet services to begin blocking users/customers from certain sites if a customer's account has been flagged for downloading unauthorized material.

AT&T plans to send a customer five email alerts that the account has been detected for downloading material from a site without permission. According to this article, internet sites for example, motion pictures, music imdustry, etc. will capture the I.P. address of a "violator" and contact the services used to surf the net. Eventually these companies can sue AT&T to release a consumers records.

Downloading copywrited material without purchasing or permission is wrong, but has "Big Brother" now monitoring our browsing and download habits?

Not new tech. Surely you have seen my constant warnings to others, it's illegal, you can be involved in prosecution, and you can face a lawsuit from the RIAA (and those can literally bankrupt you).

I made none of that up. It's been happening.

They've all been watching for a while. I warned that they were stepping up their game soon.

I guess soon has arrived.

I think I have read your posts about the topic. I sort of thought a crackdown would be sooner or later. I do remember someone in the news a few years back who got sued by one of the record-label giants for downloading music back when Napster was the latest and greatest.

You are right , any of these mega industry corps could bankrupt us minions. I wonder if Google Play will put restrictions on mp3 and mp4 (video) downloadable apps? I did use FVD Video Downloader installed from Google Play and that app has a disclaimer thats displayed each time the app starts.

Believe me, that app works! Almost too good. This crackdown also lead me to think there will be.a lot of web sites shut down/fined if they are providing copywrited material for downloading.

So is the reason they aren't just shutting these sites down because they are intl? Going after the little guy doesn't seem like the most effective policy for combating piracy IMO.

That's a very good question. You would think they'd target sites that are illegally storeing music / videos , etc. making these vailable for individual downloading.

Yeah. One US operator, who tried to claim not responsible for what people provide for download, is actually doing hard time, probably has another 5 years left on his sentence. One UK lad who didn't break the letter of UK law, according to his lawyer, was simply extradited and tried here.

I wrote about those.

PS - remember SOPA? That tied to shutting down international sites as I recall.

I have also done my best to explain for about a year that new laws and new executive power was being set up, and those things were just the tip of the iceberg.

And please don't think that being bankrupt is an unlikely outcome. One person was shown to have shared a handful of content with a few friends. She was sued for millions for distribution and that got knocked down to hundreds of thousands. For a few songs.

You can't beat this. The White House already set up a czar for this. Sites are being taken down for this. Google reached out and uninstalled one of my ringtone apps for this (I didn't know it was bad). The pirate bay was taken down for this.

It's not news, just the slow roll and crack down.

You are correct! If we think we can beat the wrap, there's plenty proof and evinence otherwise. I used to have a music dowload too and I can only imagine all the songs ive installed
