Root [AT&T] new to phone and rooting...

Lurker
I have a galaxy s4 that I bought new and unlocked. It was an AT&T phone adn I am on t-mobile. Unfortunaley the mobile hotspot function will not work ("mobile data is not avaialbe or invalid sim card"). this is a problem with unlocked at&t phones, apparently and I really need this function.

So I found this solution, but it requires rooting:

So how hard is rooting and how dangerous is it to the health of your phone? Like what are the chances something will go wrong and is there any way to fix a root gone bad?

..I am really new to cell phones but I am enjoy building computers so I am relatively versed in tech, just not cell phones.

thanks!

Never mind. I see now I asked a pathetically redundant question. I will do a weeks worth of reading, then come back.

Nothing is affected on your phone if you root it, rooting is not like jailbroken on iphone.... The best thing to do for you're phone is to root it with towel root (search towelroot.com on your phone browser; click the symbol and allow it to install on your phone. next, press make it rain, then install supersu and follow from there). If you have any further questions i will be gladly to help you.

nevertheless, that way does not work.. if you want your phone to tether follow this instructions. unfortunately, it will require root.
