Root [AT&T] New to the rooting

Hello,

I have a Galaxy S3 in Att and would like to start learning about the rooting thing... I've heard about the CM10 but I'm new to this so I dont really know if this is the best rom right now. Can some one tell me which is the best and most stable rom out there for the Galaxy S3 under ATT?.... Also, can I root my phone using a Mac.. I dont have a PC... Just an iMac

First off, Welcome! Secondly, If you want a stable ROM, the stock ROM is stable. Just because you root doesn't mean you need to put a new ROM on your phone. That being said, CM10 seems to be a popular choice. As far as Odin3 (the root program) being compatible with mac, everything I have found says that Odin3 requires a PC with Windows...

I'm also getting closer and closer to rooting. I have seen in a few places men stating that you can use your Mac to root if you have VMWare Fusion, Parrallels, or Boot Camp with Windows on it. I'm not sure if this is true but I'd like to find out bc I run Windows 7 via Fusion and would like to try that method if it works. Can anyone confirm this?

Another noob question: If I decide to root, do I download Titanium Backup and backup all my data BEFORE or AFTER the root?

I was able to successfully Root using that method, but I'm having issues getting the CWM recovery file to flash. I have Windows via Fusion and I was able to install Odin and got a "Pass" when I loaded the .tar file. But when I boot the phone to recovery mode, It doesn't take me to ClockworkMod Recovery v.xxxx it is loading Android System Recovery <3e> and there is no option to "install zip from SD card". Can anybody tell me what might be wrong as to why CWM Recovery is not taking over for the Android System Recovery?

Also, I downloaded and have been able to use SuperSU, ROM Toolbox, etc. so I know the phone is rooted. I want to be able to start flashing ROMs but I'm a little lost as what to do next.
