Can an .ogg file be downloaded into a rooted AT&T SGSIII? Want to add a sound to the phone. Thanks for any help.:p

Yes it can:)
Just download it to your sd card, then move it to either notifications or ringtones with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. Make sure you mount the system as r/w, set permissions, and reboot!

O.K., thanks. I want to add a "mail sent" sound to the phone. It should make that sound whenever i send out a text or email. What do you mean by mount the system as r/w? All my sounds have an r/w underneath them. Please explain "set permissions", as that's new to me. Sorry to be such a noob. Thanks.:)

Let me post a pic, then I can explain easier :p

See at the top it says, "mounted as r/o"? That means I cannot move files around in /system until I click on the box that says, "Mount R/W". Then I can write, (or move files to) /system.

For example, if I download an .ogg file to my sd card.
If I copy that file and navigate to /system/media/audio/notifications, and try to paste it there without mounting as r/w, the paste will fail.
I need to mount as r/w in order for the file to paste.

As far as permissions, see how next to each .ogg file it says "rwxrwxr-x"?
Set your new .ogg file with the same permissions by long pressing on the file, then changing permissions. I don't know how to better explain permissions, but I can post another pic of a screen where permissions are changed at.

Doesn't work. No sound when i send out a text, or email. Do i have to go "deeper" into the file system?

What app are you using to send a text or email?

The reason I ask is, with the stock messaging app, at least on mine (Verizon w/cleanrom) there is no option to make a sound with a message sent. On GoSmS, there is.

And on email, I use gmail, there is no option to make a sound when email is sent.

You may want to try GoSMS if you want a sound-on-sent text.

Or another email app that will handle gmail etc...like AquaMail. <---not sure if that allows sound-on-sent email tho:)

Using stock text & email apps. Had GO SMS Pro for about a month, but deleted it because of problems with incoming sounds(sound kept coming in twice). I just figured that if iPhone had the outgoing sounds, my SGSIII could have it too. Thanks for your help.:)

No problem....sorry if I had misunderstood your question :(

I noticed that you use Root Explorer. I'm using File Explorer. I was just wondering if your app is a better way to go, as far as changing files is concerned. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.:)

You use ES File Explorer? I do too, but I am just more used to Root Explorer to do some things like change permissions that's all. :)
ES File Explorer will do the same thing. I use both ;)

But I don't think that will help with the app sounds you want to happen ya know?

You're right, but i'll keep working at it. BTW, if i give ES File Explorer, superuser permission, i can also change the file codes, just like Root Explorer. Thanks for your feedback.:)

About Go Sms. It has a setting "stock sms uninstalled" or something deep in its settings so you can disable or freeze the stock messenger to prevent any double notifications

just noticed Light Flow app has a setting in it for Gmail to make a notification for "sent". Im not sure what that means though
