Root [AT&T] Questions after first rom install

My attempt at flashing Resurrection_Remix with Twrp failed. I was successful in flashing Carbon for android 4.4.4 but failed with Gapps 4.4.2.

In the future, how do I address a failed install?

Does the Gapps package have to match the updated android version?

How do I recover my apps? I used Titanium Backup for my apps but since the new rom doesn't have TB and i need the UI to navigate and install does that mean I have to manually reinstall TB first?

I like using voice activated commands on the stock rom instead of digging through all the apps. Is that a feature that's based on the rom or is there a google add-on that will work?

By installing Playstore, it will automatically install your missing apps?

Thanks for all your help

1 There can be a few reasons for failed install...one is bad download, the other is the recovery you have needs to be updated.

2 Gapps has to match the android version that the rom is based off of. Some roms come with their own gapps ie slim roms.

3 Yes you need to install titanium backup if the rom doesnt have it included.
Heads up titanium by default backsup to the internal sd not external so if ya flashed a new rom its very likely that the titanium folder in internal sd is gone.

4 No playstore will not install missing apps.

5 Not sure about the voice activated apps

i have no idea what they are referring to, in my experience play store has never installed any apps unless you download and choose to install. now they do keep track of apps you have installed for quick access to reinstall them.
