Help At&t removed tethering from my phone?

O.K. I have only tethered my phone once to try it out. I was going to show a friend how easy it was to do (he wants to move to android from an iphone). It turns on then turns off and a message pops up. It says I can enable tethering by going to att.com or whatever.

Here is my question: Will rooting my phone allow me to tether it again? I dont plan on using it, but I also do not like anyone telling me I cannot do something with a device I own.

Thanks for any help.

When you purchased the device you made an agreement with the carrier to abide by their terms of service, which may have had wording wrt tethering vs data plan upgrade, etc. ;)

I get that. However If I have my 3g connection turned off when I tether it is not using any of their bandwidth. What is it to them if I have the phone tethered to the laptop then? Hell I am paying for a data plan that I use maybe 100mb a month of.

Yes, rooting does give you tools that possibly can implement tethering and mobile wifi hotspot, etc.

But the question remains as to whether or not you're attempting to violate that aforementioned carrier/user agreement ("Terms of Service Agreement").

If so, we're not allowed to discuss that at Android Forums.

Oh, gotcha. Thanks for the help. I shall try to find my answers on another forum. You all have been a great help in the past. :)
