Root [AT&T] Should I root?

I don't know If I should root my galaxy s3. It is relatively new(getting in early September) and I really want the Cyanogenmod 10 Rom for a stock Android experience. Although I'm not sure if I should root or not, I don't want to brick my phone. And I sure as heck don't want to void the warranty but the Cyanogenmod seems really cool. I've seen others with the rom having success but I'm sure I will **** up somewhere. Although this is how I felt when I wanted to jailbreak my iphone but when I did it, it was't too hard and I even jail broke for my brother and friends with success. So you guys think it's dumb to want to root for the rom? Also, I'm fairly new to android(although I have used it before this phone. And I do have experience with messing with stuff(like jail breaking, installing mods to pc games, etc).

Your phone is fairly easy to root, plus the chances of bricking are actually pretty slim, you might just soft brick it, which is very easy to get out of...

This is the guide I used to root. Just follow it step by step and you'll be fine.

be careful about following guides. one thing that can totally screw up your phone is following a guide for a different version. ala- Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers, Orange, UK, International. some guides are a 'catch all' kind of thing. but when i rooted my phone, i followed an AT&T specific guide.

Welcome to the forums. What you ask is the age old question of many first time rooters. Is there benefits to rooting and custom Roms, yes. Is there dangers, absolutely. You do happen to have a relatively easy device to root and flash though. Some devices are somewhat difficult and that can bring more danger.

I was in the exact same situation as you a few days ago, with my SGS3 being 2 weeks old and my paranoia about bricking my phone b/c I have terrible luck. After a few days of contemplating and researching, I decided to root and stumbled across this video (How to Root the Sprint / AT&T / T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III - Latest - YouTube) by QBking77.

I did it first time without fail. Just make sure you watch the entire thing, don't skip around. For some reason, everyone who made a mistake following this video didn't uncheck "autoreboot", which QBking77 explicitly says you need to do. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there. The reasons I rooted was primarily to have more control of my android in overclocking it, and access to really cool apps, like titanium back up, I'm currently also looking into ROMS, CM 10 being one of them. I was also recommended the paranoidKANGdroid, a combination of 3 ROMS. So... i'll be looking into those after finals. I hope your rooting goes well if you decide to push through with it.
