AT&T to change Data Plans

Lame, that lower tier $15/200MB is very low. I'm not a heavy user, and even I broke 200MB last month. If you're looking to save money, don't plan on listening to Pandora much while away from a WiFi spot.

I'm 8 days into my billing cycle, and already over 200 MB. Not necessarily a heavy user.

I've seen more references to Pandora than just about any other multimedia app. You guys must be rockin' all day. ;)

I trust you all have the 1500 or 3500 battery.

I use it mostly in the car and I have a car charger, so it's never an issue. I do turn it off if the battery starts to overheat. That usually happens when I'm using navigation and Pandora at the same time and don't have the phone right by the AC vent.

I'm not big on talking on the phone - probably because I have zero signal at my house. Never got into texting much. Just checked my usage and I had one text so far this month. (I'm assuming this doesn't include the Verizon to Verizon ones that don't count toward my limit). I did have over 300,000 KB of data usage though.

VZW has already said that unlimited plans are gone when 4g is rolled out. Which means its time to figure out how much data I normally use a month and figure which plan to get. Good news though, if your a low data user, say bye bye to $30 a month for data!

I was just wondering, I'm on AT&T and i'm looking to switch over to Verizon. can i use the data plan change to terminate my contract without paying the ETF?

thanks in advance

verizon unlimited data plan is unlimited right?

shoot you pay an extra $30 on top of the phone bill it better be unlimited.

Does skype use data?

AT&T does this because their service is so slow this will probably free up

From what I understand, Skype calls "to the PSTN" count against cell minutes...on Verizon.

Skype-Skype calls avg around 40-60Kbs, depending on amount of talking. My 2 minute test call generated "roughly" 700KB up, 400KB down.

Skype-Skype video calls avg. around 200Kbs, again depending on talking. My 5 min test call generated 4MB up and 3MB down.

I'm sure the rate changes were implemented to pay for all the Cisco CRS-3 routers AT&T bought.

FWIW, I re-upped w/AT&T with my 2nd line on my family plan, after leaving with the one line in Dec, to lock in the data unlimited plan before the change. When activating my account, without contract, the rep offered to allow my AT&T branded Moto Q "smartphone" to use the $15/mo. "Data unlimited" (MediaNet) plan. Now after the changes, checking my account online, I can see that my girl's e71x, does not have the option to switch to MediaNet, but my line can. Its listed as "Data Unlimited", and my current account as "Data/Text Unlimited", something I did not have before, despite AT&T having my "smartphone" listed as the device. It seems like "unlocked/BYO" phones are allowed to get the cheaper "unlimited" plan...at least "were".

I'm tempted to switch to save the $15/mo, given that my girl only uses a few MB/mo to check email, I could switch her to the 200MB plan, and have data on both lines for $30/mo. total. However something tells me that if I switch, I'll get frozen out of the unlimited, without it being an option to re-enable. Decisions, decisions.

Doubtful, given that if you started the plan prior to the 7th, there are no changes. Never hurts to ask a CS rep though.
