Just was wondering if an Unlocked AT&T samsung galaxy s3 would work on T-mobile?? I think it would as the frequency's are the same. Also would AT&T samsung galaxy s3 get t-mobile LTE???

Thanks

It would work on T-Mobile, but not with 4G LTE. The frequencies are not the same, but both are GSM phones.:p

Actually, according to the Samsung website, it claims that the i747 supports band 4 (aws) lte which is what t-mobile uses for its lte. Based on that, I would assume it could hypothetically work.

That is why I thought it would as well. The only problem with the at&t version on tmobile would be the lack of 1700mhz 3g which could affect hspa.

I used my friend's SGSIII T-Mobile sim card to unlock my AT&T version. The unlocking went well, but i couldn't get 4G speeds, and i live in an AT&T 4G LTE city.:p

Depending on where you live, you could get 4g hspa. Because of the lte using the 1700MHz/2100MHz, t-mobile has been refarming their hspa to the 1900MHz. If you live in one of those areas, you would be fine.

Looks like im going to just buy the samsung galaxy s3 when it comes to virgin mobile in june.

I dont have tmobile 1900mhz or lte in my area yet. I do get sprint lte though so it just not worth switch from my $35 plan. I like virgin mobile but was looking to get truly unlimted data.

I'm pretty sure this won't work (I've tried), but I need to ask. Can I get a AT&T GS3 to operate with Verizon? I've tried, It gave all errors etc...

Unfortunately not. Verizon uses CDMA for voice/ text and the at&t gs3 is gsm radios only.

Hello, The ATT model has the right hardware to work on tmobile 1700/2100 but its locked out in software, it can be made to work but at this moment it only works until you reboot the phone, then you have to apply the mod again.

You can get a Verizon GS3 to work with AT&T though?

....

Hypothetically it should work. The Verizon version comes with both cdma and gsm radios in it and the gsm frequencies show compatibility with at&t.

Wait.. WHAT THE HECK...!

So i can just buy a Verizon GS3, unlock it, and use it on AT&T, or even better, T-mobile! :) I'm sure I live in a refarmed area because I get confirmed 1900mhz in Jax, and I think I get it in my house too. (it says network is UMTS when my phone supports AWS and UMTS, amaze 4g is a pentaband phone :D).

If I could get a Verizon S3 onto T-mobile, get LTE, hspa and stuff to work right (these thing have unlock guides all over xda) that would be awesome! The Verizon S3 is selling for less than the At&t and T-Mobile S3.

Im not sure on this but I dont think the verizon version works on t mobile AWS though it might.

As to jax refarming I see they have some areas, mostly along the interstate I know at my house (near the beaches) I can get a hspa signal but its weak and drops it for edge 99% of the time. And that 1 % when it stays long enough to use speed test is almost as slow as sprint.
:D

It does technically support T-Mobile and AT&T's EDGE network, but the only HSPA it supports is 2100MHz (the most common Euro HSPA frequency), not 1700 or 1900 for T-Mobile or 850 for AT&T. But you would be able to get voice & sms with your 2g data. This is all assuming you can get around the extra software lock that many claim the device has as well.

If it has the same radio as the other version, which is a big if really, they most likely have it locked out in software.

My personal belief is that verizon wants you (a verizon customer) to be able to take your verizon phone with you on vacation and pop a euro sim in and go, then go home and continue to use verizon.

What they do not want you to be able to do is get mad at verizon and take your verizon phone to att or tmo.

This is exactly how they want it. Which is why the only HSPA frequency it supports is the 2100. I can't imagine there's many people who would be ok with only getting EDGE if there area had faster speeds available and all they needed was a corresponding device.

Another thing to note is when you look at a specs page, it will typically show a conglomeration of all available models into one. It's typically not that the LTE modem is the exact same between all variants of the SGS3, it's the list of all variants. Verizon uses a different frequency (Band 13, ~780 MHz) than AT&T (Band 17, ~710 MHz). It is not apparent from any specs I've seen that the modem in all SGS3s with LTE can and will do all. And even if they will, the firmware in the modem can be modified to disable this ability.

Also, this is assuming we are speaking of a North American model of the SGS3 LTE versus the international SGS3 LTE phone.

All in all, it's really a roll of the dice, unless you have read of someone's particular success with cross-carrier compatibility.
