Help AT&T Visual Voicemail app

Has anyone been able to successfully get it set up on their phone? I've been trying unsuccessfully to get it set up and have called AT&T Support but alas it still won't work. AT&T Support tells me I should be using the AT&T Messages app but I don't like how it takes over my messaging functionality.

So has anyone had any success with AT&T Visual Voicemail app and if so any tips or tricks?

I tried it out but was unhappy with needing to use AT&T's message center.

I went with using Google voice mail off of my Google voice account. Essentially when your phone voice mail picks up it redirects them to your Google voice mail box.
