Hello obsidianwings. To speed up a device with a bit of resource drag, it's a good idea to approach it from a few different angles. There's the autosyn angle for one; make sure you've not allowed over time too many apps/widgets to sync in the background, running services and polling "home" for data (weather/news, social networking like Facebook, etc, Gmail and other email accounts you may have set).
Also, have a look at some of the apps you like: do they run ads? If so, there's some serious resource hogging right there.
The space saving approach (RAM/internal memory) is helpful, as you mentioned, but actually not by much. Full RAM is good in a way more important than it can be bad in a few cases. It's good because it allows for less scanning by the system for the most used data, just like the page file on Windows computers.
Then there's the cache partition wipe. You can go into your recovery menu and clear that partition:
1. Power off your device.
2. At the same time, press the volume down button and the power button on the back until you see the text "Fastboot" appear in the top left in corner of the screen.
3. Use the volume down button to scroll through all the options until you reach "Android Recovery".
4. Pressing the volume up button will select the option.
5. You should now see the famous Android Triangle Exclamation screen.
6. Tap the bottom right hand corner of the screen, just above the search key and that should bring you into the main menu of the system recovery.
The volume buttons will allow you to scroll through these menu items:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
7. Use the volume keys to navigate to the "wipe..." selection, then hit the power button to make it happen. It will finish then return to the "reboot..." selection. Hit power.
