Atrix screen shattered

So I was reading a text on my phone last night and my phone made a load pop and the screen shattered. It threw little glass splinters all over me. I have had this atrix since the day it came out and was hoping to wait for ice cream sandwich or jelly bean. Has any one had this happen before without dropping?
 
This can happen to any phone. A little stress on the glass and a change in temperature and boom, shards. It happens using phones as GPS nav units more frequently as they tend to heat up, but it could happen easily just as you describe. You can make the argument it was a manufacturing defect, but if it's out of warranty, I wouldn't count on anyone doing anything about it.

Thanks! My contract is about up. I have a lg thrill to borrow till then. But I don't know that it will compare to my atrix. But I'll probably just start looking at new phones. Does anyone have any suggestions. How is the xperia ion
