Atrix vs Inspire

yeah, but we also have new galaxy s phones coming out,

new dual core HTC phones coming out...

6 months is usually the time line for "top teir" products before they get "out dated"

thats when custom roms come in handy.

Never buying another $amesung product again. I would pick up an HTC phone if they come out with a dual core phone with a non-shitty battery in it.

you and me both man. Samsung lost me.

HTC hasnt had a good name with batteries, but lately they have been doing a lot better with writing their software to optimize battery.

There are some pretty common misconceptions spreading in this thread.

1. downloading ATT-forbidden apps from the market is not sideloading, though it is useful. Sideloading has been successfully implemented via the side-loading wonder machine on windows and ADB (android dev kit) on linux. It's a minor annoyance, but very doable.

2. froyo and RAM. I've looked, and while >256 is called out with HUGEMEM support in the 2.6.32 kernel, no upper limit is given. I have a pretty solid linux background, and I would be very surprised if this meant 512MB was the new limit. It is likely much, *much* higher.

3. SMP and SMT. The kernel would have to be compiled for it (as it is for the optimus 2x ROM), but the linux kernel in froyo supports both multi-processing *and* multithreading both in userspace and in the kernel. If you look at the typical linux desktop, there are a few hundred processes/threads running with at least a handful in constant contention for CPU time. It's somewhat less for android, but not a whole lot. The Froyo userspace (eg. the GUI you interact with) is already multithreaded because this is an advantage on single-core CPUs as well. There should be a noticeable performance impact from having 2 cores.

and stop posting stuff they pull outta their a$$, no matter how entertaining it is...

I agree on alot of points! Like Vihzel said, hardly anyone has touched this phone, so who knows how it'll really perform...Spec wise, the thing is just an absolute BEAST! Yes pricing is up there for the dock, but after some thinking, do I really need the dock? I dont think so, $199 for the phone is just fine, it's what most high end phones cost now...Vzw is charging $249 for the Thunderbolt, and in all honesty, I really like HTC, and I want VZW's 4G, but I am not paying $249 or $629 for last years Technology, yes faster and newer Snapdragon, yes it's 4G, yes sense is silky smooth! But it's got an LCD screen with the same ol resolution as all the 2010 phones. Display to me is important!

Spec wise the Atrix will be amazing,,,My only 2 gripes were the Price for the laptop dock, which at the end of the day I could probably live without, and at&t! Yes I said at&t, they are hit or miss with they're service in my experience the last year or 2! I will be keeping an eye on what people say within the first week or 2 of the launch, and if there is alot of positive feedback, I will take the plunge!

Do you currently have AT&T? because if you do and you are not getting good coverage, I suggest getting a different cell phone carrier.

not to bash you or anything, but I never understood why people who dont get good service with at&t still sign 2 year contracts with AT&T....

no phone is worth not getting service with. I'm lucky that where i live and travel, at&t is perfect....but so are the other 3 carriers

Yes I have a Business account with at&t, 6 lines! Most of us have Blackberrys, and for the most part everyone is pretty happy with they're phones and service. I'm the only real tech whore that's always switching phones and what not. Service was awesome for the most part, up until around I'd say last year. It's spotty for me in BKLYN NY, plus I travel to just about all the 5 boroughs. BKLYN is about the worst as far for me! My personal line is VZW, and I have to say I have no complaints as far as coverage or data speeds. However, I have no reason to not believe that at&t has amped up they're network and are working to make it better since all these iphones started clogged they're network.

Like I said, I will play it safe, and see what the reviews come back with! If it's all good, I will snatch it up, if not, I will simply pass!

It seems like there's some discord starting to brew. I always thought it was Android vs iPhone not Android vs Android. I'm going to get the Inspire and try it out. Then try the Atrix and make a final decision after that.

People will bitch and moan about anything.

What the hell are you smoking? I get much better coverage now that I'm on At&t than I did when I was on Verizon. My connection speed is also faster, hell I can upload faster on my phone than I can on my cable connection!

Agreed, people complain way faster than saying they don't have a problem. FWIW, I've had ATT in SoCal for the last few years and it's been fine, so I'm going with the Atrix... sans dock.

Uh, he wasn't bashing AT&T or Verizon, he was simply saying why keep signing a contract with a company that doesn't have good service where you live. Apparently people come into his store and complain about service but then turn around and keep renewing plans- I agree, it is insanity on their part.

Ahh! Okay, I can kinda see that now. Carry on! :D

haha, yeah. I saw the thread topic is "Atrix vs. Inspire" and I noticed another thing that gives an edge to the Atrix (for me anyways).

I'm still undecided on which of the two to get. I currently have the Captivate and at&t is going to let me trade in my phone for either one of the two. I just have to pay anything over $200.

I have a Captivate as well....how did you get AT&T to allow you to trade in your phone for credit towards the Inspire/Atrix?

--- Sorry for the duplicate post...I am a newbiee...

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau noting that the GPS is defective.

Hasn't that been fixed????

NOPE. It's been danced around, sympathized with, and now lastly ignored... Samsung is on to bigger and better things to pretend to support with the Galaxy S 2's announced in a couple weeks, the Infuse 4G, and Vibrant 4G. They have our money, they don't care now...

I appreciate the info. So you submitted a compliant against AT&T online in your local area and they contacted you to make you a "happier" customer? Can you provide some background?

For the most part it really matters where you live as far as service goes with any of these providers, whether it be vzw,at&t, Sprint, or T-Mobile. All about location!

Yes, you're right. I filed a compliant, on line, against at&t claiming that they are knowingly selling a defective product. I explained that I have been waiting for the GPS to be fixed and while the time to first fix seems to have been improved, the accuracy deems navigation useless.

Within a week, an at&t rep got back to me and said that I can only trade in my phone for another Captivate. He also said that this is an isse for Samsung to handle. I replied that I will then just cancel my contract and move to another carrier and if at&t doesn't protect their customers from defective products, they will lose them. He then replied that I will be able to trade in my phone for any phone other than the iPhone. If the 2-year contract price is less than 199, I won't have to pay a dime.

Recently, I aksed to ship me an Atrix and he agreed to ship one to me when it's released. I have to mail him back my Captivate.

Alright people, I will say this once and only ONCE. This thread will be the ONLY thread in the ATRIX FORUM that will have any sort of discussion about the HTC Inspire. Any other discussion on the Inspire, please post it in the Inspire 4G Forum. I've been pruning the threads in this forum and moving all posts that have made quite a few threads go OT. I’ve moved over 100 posts here and as you can see, I am not very pleased with that. Please remember to keep to the TOPIC of the thread in question. If you want to discuss about something that's not related to the thread you're in, find another thread and if there's none, then please make one.

Just try to remember, the great thing about Android? The choices and selections you're given. If you're an Android fan, you know that there's a phone for YOU. Everyone is unique, a phone you like doesn't mean someone else must also like. We all have different criteria to what we want and need in our phones. That's fine. All Android phones are great; they allow us to customize our phones to our unique individuality. No two Android phones are the same. The Inspire is a great phone and if it works for you, great. The Atrix is a great phone and if you think the phone will work for you, great as well. If not, there are many other Android phones out there.

We are all on 'team Android', a community with like interest and should stick together. The whole point of this Forum is to discuss Android, not this Android phone I'm getting is better than THAT Android phone YOU are getting. There’s really no need and quite pointless for all of these bickering going on.

Now continue your DISCUSSION on the Atrix vs the Inspire ;)

No offense, but they make the phone to sell it. Yes, a primary target for Google are mobile developers and providing a 'vanilla' experience is important to devs, they make the phone to sell it (and make money, which is the responsibility of the company). Wouldnt it be easier for google to just, say, publish a document stating min/ideal hardware specs like any piece of software ever created, lol?

You've never done any software development, huh?

Had you filed any complaints beforehand documenting your poor gps experience, or was this your first contact with at&t regarding the issue

Be careful, I had just done the same thing, and they would only give me $75 off of a new phone. I told them it was ridiculous...
