ATT Navigator and others keeps restarting

mcbklyn

Lurker
I use Advance Task Killer and every once i while when I click on it to show all programs running I see that some applications that I never use run in the background.
ATT Navigator, Media Hub and some others start by themselves.
I Force Stop them but they keep coming back.

Is there a way to stop these programs from restarting?
There is also no option for uninstall.
I bet their drain my battery.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Don't use a task killer!! I can't stress that enough! Android 2.2 and above do not require task killers. The way the OS is built it will only use the resources needed when they're needed. Those apps realistically aren't killing much of your battery most likely.

If you really want to get rid of them you'll have to root and then flash a new ROM or use something like root uninstaller to remove those bloatware apps.

However, keep in mind that removing bloatware could bring problem when AT&T sends an update. I have not experienced that, but have read in other forums that removing bloatware is not good.

So are you saying that task killer drains more battery then it saves?
I worry that if I do not use task killer then all these apps will start and keep running in the background, which will kill my battery.

Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. Task killers cause more battery drain and poorer performance than properly tweaking your device. I'll have to dig some posts up but if you start searching about task killers you can find some good info on why they are worse for your phone and battery than not running them at all.

What about the task killer included with the infuse? How is that possible that it could drain more battery? It saves my phone more often than not, ill open it and have at least 15 apps running draining my battery. If I were to leave them open my phone would die so fast.

I wasn't aware of a task killer coming pre-loaded on the Infuse, or any device for that matter... My wife's Infuse didn't have any task killer on it out of the box.

Is it possible the sales person installed it for you when they were activating the device? Can any other Infuse owners confirm if their phones came with a pre-loaded task killer?

Unless you are talking about the running services tab under application management?

My phone came out of the box with a 'Task Manager' app. The sales Rep didn't put any app's on my phone. Im pretty positive it was already there. When I open the apllication it gives me the option to end all tasks or I can end them individually. I've definitely seen people in other threads mention their task managers. Mostly in threads about battery life. That's strange you don't have one.

Task Manager should be a part of the original installation. You can always check to see if it's in your phone by tapping the Home button twice and holding it down on the second tap. Task Manager should come up.
