ATT user - any new androids on the horzion? torn between aria and captivate

hey guys,
Ive looking at the Aria and the Captivate so far and its a really hard decision.
Do you guys know if any new android phones are coming out soon - like within the next few months?

Which one do you recommend? I really want to use this new phone to keep me better organized this year in college. It's my last year, and I'll be bogged down with research, work, school, senior design project, club chair, the steel bridge team, grad school aps, eit exam, gre..... SO much to do.... its quite daunting.

I want a phone that can connect well with my laptop (running windows) to organize email/dates/tasks/notes from office etc/HAS A NICE&FAST WAY OF ACCESSING CONTACTS (my old phone SUCKS AT THIS)
I was considering a windows 7 phone but I"m not sure how logn that would be.

The last phone I bought, I didn't do enough research, I didn't ask anyone. I bought it at its last month on the market - depressing. Now I"m thinking, if I buy the aria or the captivate I would regret it once a new phone comes out just a few months later.

Here's my stance on the two phones:
MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE.
aria - small but fast(according to reviews) - though small screen. I'm concerned about two thigns - battery life and whether or not it will be upgraded with FROYO(seems awesome)

captivate - powerful but HUGE. I also heard lots of things about how buggy the samsung touchwiz is.

at the moment I"m leaning towards the aria, but I really don't want to regret it when I realize that its not as SNAPPY as everyone is surprised to see it go with its 600MHZ processor.

I would go with the Captivate base on the specs. I have neither so I can't comment on the performance. Just a comparison, I came from the Droid to the Evo, and the Evo blows it away. I'm not sure if the Droid is that much slower then the Aria though.

Besides visiting the forums of both phones you want, you might want to google them too and see what the reviews say. As for your contact, once you set up a google account, everything is saved into it, and it's easy to retrieve it if you ever lose your phone.
 
yeah.. all other carriers are getting kick ass phones and AT&T is just missing the boat. The best phone they have is the Captivate still on 2.1 and GPS problems. The SE X10 is good, but still on 1.6!!!

My wife just got the EVO on sprint.. its perfect in every way. C'mon AT&T I need a kickass android phone on a GSM network!! (Yes I know T-mobile has a Galaxy S variant and T-Mobile is GSM...but the problem is that I don't have good T-mobile signal around where I live)

There's rumor that HTC will come out with a EVO-like phone for Verizon that will be dual CDMA/GSM (meaning global roaming)... if that happens, I'm jumping ship to Verizon.

If global roaming is not an issue with you, I'd go with either the EVO on Sprint or Droid X on Verizon. But sadly I travel overseas every month so I'm sticking with my Iphone and blackberry. :(
 
Theres no comparison, Ive had both and the Captivate is a god send! The GPS problems have been sorted out as well since launch, I have no complaints with this phone other than i wish i had got it a lot longer ago!
 
The Samsung captivate is an awesome phone right now it has the best hardware out there right now. I loaves everything about the phone and its only gonna get better with 2.2

I've had some hands on with a Captivated and its a awesome phone, no doubt .. plus the Screen is absolutely amazing.
If you like the EVO and considered going to Verizon, I'd definetely recommend the HTC Incredible phone with the 2150 or 3500 battery over the DX.

The size of the Captivate depends on what you're coming from I suppose. It's roughly the same size as the iPhone 3G(s) - the Captivate is the tiniest bit taller and wider but is also thinner and lighter. I'd say it's average sized for a smartphone.
 
It depends on whether you are choosing purely on specs or what fits your needs. The Captivate wins hands down on specs, but do you need or want it all. I have the Aria, smaller to carry around, does everything I need it to do, and is not a Yugo! (haha) Go to AT&T and try them both out.
 
I have Captivate and love it. I think you've noticed the difference in spec: captivate has a much faster CPU. About size, I think captivate is too big for woman (the same opinion on iphone).
 
I'm always paranoid about the size of a phone. I hate holsters. I was very worried about the size of this phone but was pleasantly surprised. I think the thin body really makes a difference. It fits seamlessly and comfortably in my front pocket where I keep it all the time and where I think a phone belongs.

The size of the screen is well worth it too. This phone has replaced my laptop 80% of the time. I don't think an Aria could replace my laptop.
 
I had the Captivate. Love it...except sent it back and waiting on a GPS fix. I'm dieing here.

But I don't want to get stuck with a bad GPS for 2 years. I do use it a lot for traveling.

If they don't have it fixed by end of Sept, I may give up on AT&T and move to Verizon. I don't want to, but AT&T just doesn't have much of a selection.

Regarding the screen: while I have small hands and need to use 2 hands, I still think anything smaller than the 4" is getting too small if you do much texting/entry for whatever reason.

HAHA What?!

Thinking about it though, I would agree that I know a lot more men with a Captivate and a lot more women with an Aria, but I think its the cuteness (size, shape, gloss) of the Aria, and not just how big it is (like that matters to a woman hah) that causes the attraction.
 
My wife has a Winmo phone that is small, maybe a bit smaller than the Aria (Its and LG Incite).

She is definitely interested in larger, like the Captivate. If they ever get the GPS fixed and I get one. I think she want's me to get it and decide it is good before she gets it...even though in her case she doesn't care about the GPS.
 
Definately get the Captivate! I went into the AT&T store with my daughter to get an iPhone, and took the time to check out their misserable selection of Androids. The Captivate is a thing of beauty! The screen is so bright and clear that I have only been on my home computer for serious work since I got the phone a week ago. However, do not buy it from AT&T! There are online sites (I got mine from Wirefly) that will sell the phone for over $100 less than the AT&T store. You will still have to extend your contract, but saving money is a good thing. And, while the GPS is not up to par yet, it does work, more or less. I am anxiously waiting for a Samsung fix and Froyo!
 
Read all the fine print when purchasing from sites like wirefly. Remember, you don't get something for nothing.

U are right, U get it for less :D

I was naive once too, the last phone I bought at an At&t store was my wife's RAZR for $250. A few months later I got my first of 2 Blackberries from Wirefly for FREE. I returned one to At&t direct for a replacement a few months later. Wirefly was a pleasure to deal with, but you are right you need to read the fine print a live up to it. The only thing that generally ask is you keep your device for 6 months, but their contracts may change just like everyone else, YMMV.

The only complaint I would have is their ordering system is set up to sell up more than you need. So to get out the door with just a phone and the lowest plan you need; can be challenging but very doable.

I have resold one of those devices 3 months later and never heard from
Wirefly, but my wife still has her 3 year old RAZR and I have my 2 year old BB. I will buy my next device from Walmart, Wirefly, Best Buy, Radio Shack or even At&t, which ever gives me the best deal.
 
I am in the same boat.
What about unlocked android phones that work with AT&T?
