Attach dropbox file as attachment in gmail

Newbie
I've forgotten my data cable so can't copy the dropbox file over to my computer (restrictions on the work pc do not permit me to connect to dropbox over the internet).

I thought then I would email the file from the dropbox folder to my gmail account using the gmail app however the gmail attachment only shows me two folders (camera shots & all photos) with no means that I can see to browse to my dropbox folder. Am I missing something?

Anything anyone else can suggest?

It's a htc desire z

I can see files in my dropbox folders - when I click on a file select "Share" then it asks if I want to "share this file", "share a link" or "copy a link". If you copy the link and then email to yourself, you should be able to access the file from your email account

I was clicking once and it was opening the file. Only have the phone a couple of days so didn't realise about the long hold thing so didn't get the options you had.

I couldn't get it to email it. In the end what I ended up doing was downloading astro file manager and then using it within gmail to attach the file.

Very odd that gmail only allows you to browse for photos when attaching files.

Thanks for the advice anyway. That's another thing I've learned.

OP: next time you want to do that, follow the steps Archphoto lined out, only take the "share this file" option. Once the file is pulled down from Dropbox, you'll be given a few choices as to how you want to share it, including gmail (as an attachment)

Edited for clarity

Yeah - I tried that but it always seemed to get stuck sending in gmail however when I started directly in gmail using the file manager to attach from within gmail I had no such problems. I only have gprs wignal where I am at work so signal can be a bit choppy at times. Perhaps I just hit a good signal patch when I was using the file browser. I'm glad I now have the file browser anyway so got something useful out the whole experience. Still easier to use the data cable though so hopefully lesson learned there.

Download astro file manager from the market. when you hit attach, choose astro. It will take you into the file manager. choose folder in the sd card its saved under then select the file.

Yeah. It worked perfect. It was a strange one. I tried to send the file by using the long pause and choosing send with gmail but it always failed but the one time I tried with the astro file manager it went straight off. Could have just been luck as the signal isn't that great at work.

I've been playing around with it this evening and its a great little app.
