Attention Potential Android Users: choosing the right smartphone for you

I have joined this forum to try and resolve the last few issues with my brand new HTC Velocity 4G. I've customised it, I've added widgets, I've connected to my email accounts, I've changed the Scene, the Wallpaper, I've downloaded apps, I've figured it all out. BUT after about a week of trying, I CANNOT ACTIVATE A CALL FROM MY BLUETOOTH CARKIT. This seems to be a problem with all Androids. My old Nokia worked: you pair on Bluetooth, you press the button on the steering wheel, the Nokia beeps at you, you say a name, and then it dials. But the HTC will not do this, and you have to touch the phone, no matter which Voice App you use (I'ver tried many!). You either touch the phone which is illegal in this country, or you don't make calls while you are driving. Or you go back to your old phone. HTC area aware of the problem, and have done nothing about it for months, according to the dates on the forums I've read.

Any ideas? I'm ready to give the darn thing back.

i'm here to ask about the new Samsung Android phone, the 'Samsung Galaxy S Advance'.
Looking at the specs, i really loved it, the cheapest phone with ARM Mali-400MP GPU, and also a dual core 1 Ghz processor. It'd be awesome to play 3D games :D
I've all the specs that i wanted on this phone, and i don't really care about this phone only having 768mb of ram, RAM doesn't matter a lot in playing games since it didn't really affect the FPS.
The only problem here is that it has Super AMOLED Screen. Well, people said that it's fantastic colours in the screen and looks very awesome. but some said that it's really fragile and it has chances to have screen burn in. can anyone tell me how many people out of 10 people have the screen burn in using the Super AMOLED screen? I'm thinking of buying Galaxy R rather than Galaxy S Advance but i guess Advance is more stylish and i love stylish things :p, and i believe that ARM Mali-400 is more powerful than that Tegra that Galaxy R has.

Don't worry about screen burn-in. It will take you years of heavy usage and long hours with the screen on to have burn-in start happening.
 
Thread subject & object both are amazing and the information shared is giving a lot out for the ones who got little knowledge about the stuff.

Though i was thinking that no one recommend the i phone and why ?
 
I am quite happy with my SOny Ericsson Xperia Neo but I regret the fact that I wasn't able to read this post before purchasing my phone. This post gives information that's not just basic but is detailed and very informative. Good job!
 
The Phone Finder website apparently doesn't work very well. I put in these options:

Verizon -- (tried "available" or "upcoming", didn't matter which )
smartphone
Android
OLED
microSD

and it insists "There are no phones matching your critera. Please, specify different criteria." I mean, really? These are the most basic of requirements, and certainly are covered by the Samsung Galaxy S III that I have pre-ordered from Verizon, and also other models that I had been looking at but decided not to buy, such as both new models of RAZR.

Edit - OK, so unlike what I expected, the choices are not "inclusive" of other choices, meaning that selecting "OLED" doesn't also cover AMOLED, Super AMOLED, etc. Bad move on their part. However, selecting Super AMOLED does result in a few models shown, and when I switched to "upcoming" the S III does show up for Verizon. So the site works, but you have to be quite literal in your choices. If you want "some kind of" AMOLED screen, you will have to pick EXACTLY what kind, out of several choices for AMOLED variant.
 
I have to agree with the OP that Sense is fantastic. I've tried several phones over the years. I have 5 phones on my acct. I upgrade about twice a year and pass my old phone down the line to my kids, so I'm always trying different phones. I've tried Moto and Samsung. Hated Moto (tried Droid 3 and another one I can't remember right now). Thought the display was very dull and didn't care for Blur. Samsung had a BEAUTIFUL display. Gorgeous colors. But the phone felt flimsy and plastic-y. Even tried the iphone briefly. For all of about 10 days. Hated it because it is not customizable at all. Love that android phones allow you to truly make the phone your own. In the end, I just keep going back to HTC. Have had the original Dinc, Dinc 2, and now using a Rezound. Also love that HTC has decided to make it easy to unlock their phones. Just wish Verizon would hurry up with the ICS release.

It was the first time I heard about the Vanilla android phone. So is this phone sold by Android enthusiasts or are there companies manufacturing them? I figured they would be great guinea pugs for my own developed Android applications. Take note too that I am a new Android developer so I am afraid using my own android phone would mess it up

I would wait for the iPhone 5's announcement since its so near and see how that compares. If not I would get the Galaxy Note 2, or if that's too big S3

I'm planning to get the Note 2 when it comes out. I'm very excited :-) though I am hoping to win a contest as it is a bit out of my budget haha.

Haha I already have a GNex so I wouldn't want anything soon. You could always draw a dinosaur and send it to Samsung hoping for the best xD

Haha. In any case, once the note 2 comes out, I'm sure local carriers as well as Samsung Philippines will be having contests again like they did for the s3. They gave out 5 of the s3 per contest. Unfortunately I didn't win one lol
 
I have tried a number of android phones like Samsung Galaxy, HTC Desire Z and a few of my friends. At the present time I holds HTC Dezire V and finds it pretty good smart phone. Samsung Galaxy S3 is the best device at the present time in the race of finest android device but Desire V does all I need from a mobile device.

I couldn't agree more the Galaxy 3 is amazing and extremely user friendly.
Very recommended although a bit expensive.
 
Hi there, I have Samsung Galaxy SII and it has some details on its first screen, like HW, PDA, Phone, CSC, RF Call, SMD, Camera, TSP, TSK, if i put sim card out of cell they disappeard but it put sim card in they show up. I tried so many things but still these details are there, how can I remove them from there.. Please tell me.

I have an HTC Desire and managed to pair my car kit just from the information in the car kit booklet. I am with Blueyonder and use Orange network. The car has buttons on the steering wheel which connect to the inbuilt map system on my new Honda Civic. Perhaps a call to your kit supplier or to your carrier might help?
