audio adapter probs

Hi all I just got an audio adapter for my magic so that i can use my headphone but it does not seem to work, the sound still comes from the inbuild speaker! Should i set summit up or am i missing something? thanks for any help

There's nothing to setup, when I insert my adaptor the sound automatically switches to headphones.

The swithing is accomplished by the way the adapter is wired ... so this would indicate the the adapter you have is not properly wired for your phone ...
