Has anyone updated like metro said to today (aug 11) and have u noticed any speed improvements i havent updated yet and my 4g id going in and out like it did on zva o_O

My phones have recently gained a little more 4G up/down speed in the Boston area (last month or so) I went from avg of 1500/500 to 2500/2500 avg. Not bad LOL... At least it went in the right direction, even if not by much :)

And that happened without me doing anything. My PRLs on both phones updated automatically. Premia went to 2035, Motion is now on 3035

Cant tell.... didn't pay bill... lol

When I pay my bill, hopefully tue or wed I will see if VV5 on my non-VoLTE first gen Connect 4G does the job or if service is better with it...

Or a crap fest since I guess now stores where saying to people ZVA was okay for the first edition...

I will see soon...

What I have noticed my shit has been dropping data all day ( Fort Worth Texas) .. I completely wiped the system and install the vv5 update the day before I got the voicemail.. so when it does stay connected data speeds are better than what they have been

Very interested to hear what you have to say. Looking forward to it.

I have stayed on ZVA for now. Waiting on ShatterProof's flashable VV5 baseband.

It's been 2 weeks since the deadline and if I had posted last week, I would have said connectivity is alot better than before Aug. 11. But this past week (2nd week since the deadline), service, connectivity, seems as bad or slightly worse than before the deadline.
I don't know what to make of it. A few times this week I had absolutely no signal, no connection at all, no 4g, no EV, no 1x, which hardly, if ever happened before Aug. 11.
I have a program called fresh network that reconnects me when that happens, but still, I don't remember this ever happening previously. But it's not a big deal, as I refresh all the time with Metro's lousy service. Anytime my speed slows making streams unwatchable, I refresh. As always, somedays are better than others. But there has been a big discrepancy between this week and last week since the dealine of Aug 11.

Instead of using ZVA which is known by both Metro and LG to cause serious overheating and connectivity problems, why not just do the upgrade to VV5? ZVA is the worst firmware you could possibly use on that phone. And flashing VV5 baseband to ZVA will likely cause even more problems for you.

I am on Stock VV5, on my "Non-VoLTE" LG Connect, and I have not had any issues. It has been more stable then what ZVA based firmware from what I have seen. Sometime later today I will update to Number Two v 2.0.

I know people have been saying metro is not updating the "Non-VoLTE" Connect and saying VV5 is not needed for that phone, which I do not understand why as VV5 works just fine and the added benefits such as quickmemo are awesome.

I don't have my pc up and running so can't update via sammyz instructions (cab file).

Shatterproof has made a flashable firmware update to VV5,... but right now doesn't include the baseband. He's probably working on it as we speak. I'm in no rush. Been dealing with ZVA over a year now, another month won't kill me.

How long has voLTE series been out? And how long has it been since we were able to upgrade? It's not that long ago.

So either I wait for pc or wait for something flashable.

Funny thing is,.... this forum is so much more knowledgeable than anyone at a corporate store. They keep telling me you can't go from ZVA to voLTE. They are so clueless.

Question: if I flash or update with the cab file, do I still need to unroot, go back to stock first?

Thanks for your replies guys.

No. If you manage to get a PC to update, you can use cab/kdz method in sammyz's unbrick thread to do so. The phone will update the system to VV5, while keeping all data like apps, text messages and such. I would strongly recommend backing up everything you want to keep, and then perform a factory reset.

After flashing VV5 you will lose root access and Clockworkmod. Do the factory reset with the stock LG Recovery (Power and Vol- keys) and then root and flash CWM afterwards if you want them. The old All-in-one Root/CWM kits do NOT work with VV5. You have to use the new Connect-the-dots kit to root, but as for CWM you will have to manually push it with ADB or use ROM Manager app to install it.

Don't listen to any MetroPCS employees, as they don't know shit. We, in the Connect forums know VV5 works fine with the old MS840 and some of us have been running VV5 way before MPCS was offering the update. They will tell you it won't work cuz they want you to buy a new handset. I have an original Connect running rooted VV5 and it's fine. Runs better than any other firmware out there. Hope that helps....

I have not included it into the original .zip yet but its still very easy to do just go here and enjoy, im sure you will get it ;) http://androidforums.com/connect-4g...rmware-baseband-stock-rooted.html#post6056305

Again thank you Shatterproof. Just amazing how talented and giving you are.

And thank you Spec2nirvash for the info. Very informative.

But now that Shatterproof worked his magic, I can update without the pc.

As soon as I have time to back everything up, I will have a new phone! I'm quite excited.

I have been noticing a return of posters to the LG Connect. This phone must be finally living up to it's potential with the voLTE updates. I have always liked this phone and thought it was being a bit under appreciated. Ofcourse, what do I know,.... this is my first cell phone. I researched and went out and got the LG Connect the first day it was available cause I wanted a mini computer, tv, phone, camera, internet, all in the palm of my hand. And for the most part, it hasn't disappointed. Oh sure it overheats occasionally, battery sucks, and the like, but hey,.... this is one little machine that packs a punch. It's got good specs, more than any general user might need. Last week, I dropped the Connect in the bathroom. It hit the rim of the rock hard toliet bowl, the back came off, battery came out, and all 3 parts fell right in the water. After drying it off, it was up and running an hour later. That's a well made machine. And now that I can finally update,.. I can fall in love with this toy, all over again.

It's good to see people come back to the Connect. And this forum.

Spec2nirvash, I notice you strongly recommend doing a factory reset, so as to start fresh. That is after updating/flashing fw? Correct? And I'll still have root after reset right?

One more question, why do I always hear of factory reset with the hard keys, when there is that option to factory reset in the menu key/settings/privacy/factory data reset? Is that not the same thing?

Thank you.

Unless your rom is stock/unrooted do not do a factory reset that way. As far as I know you'll bork your $h1t.

Here are step by step instructions.

Yes, do a factory reset only AFTER flashing VV5 (firmware flash will remove CWM and root), using hard key combo from power off state. DNRDustin is correct there, doing a factory reset from security menu will cause a ClockworkMod boot loop. Just pretend that you never saw that factory reset option in the menu, you should never have to use it!!

And if you're going to flash a backup image and/or baseband file to upgrade to VV5, just disregard everything I said to avoid confusion; just follow DNRDustins instructions and you should be fine.

I'm a little confused. Did you mean "just follow Shatterproof's instructions"? Cause that's the plan. So don't factory reset, if I follow Shatterproof's update?

Hi, my name is DNRDustin, and my name was used several times in Spec2nirvash's response. I wrote out very easy to follow instructions as to what you need to do, and then decided to make a guide and link it in my previous post up there. Yes Shatterproof gives instructions, but if you are still confused by the process I recommend at least looking at my guide first. It's a step by step from beginning to end with all the resources you need located in one place.

Go where this post tells you --> http://androidforums.com/connect-4g-all-things-root/751636-aug-11-date.html#post6099490

If you are updating using the lgUpdater process(http://androidforums.com/connect-4g-all-things-root/695800-unbrick-unroot-update-lg-connect.html) factory reset comes at the END of the process(I like to do it before i start as well).
1. Make sure the lgUpdater has finnished and your phone has rebooted.
2. Power down the phone.
3. Press "VolDown + Power" at the same time.
4. Press Power to confirm
5. Press Power one more time.
6. Wait for phone to reboot.
7. Reboot once more after you have gone through the setup process.

Alternatively, if you are going to update by flashing zips through CWM, factory reset would be done through CWM BEFORE any ROMs are flashed....
However, if you do not plan to flash a new ROM(though I recommend that you do), just flash the baseband.zip and reboot. No resets, no clearing, no nothing.

My bad. I totally missed your post of Aug. 28th, Dustin. I don't know how I could have done that. I apologize for misunderstanding.

Thank you very much for your reply and generosity,.... in supplying such detailed instructions. Very kind of you. Thanks. It's more than I could have hoped for.

I wish one day I could return the favor.

Just flash, know there are people willing to hold your hand, consider the favor returned and enjoy!
