Australian Ace (Q&A please)

Heya
I'm an Australian woman that has just ordered a Samsung Galaxy Ace from my provider Telstra. I have left behind an iPhone 4 and am looking forward to the full accessibility that rooting offers (I was always too nervous to JailBreak an Apple but have long experience with linux and PCs).

I suppose my first question is :Where do I get firmware that I know will work in my region?

Secondly, I'd really like to optimize my Ace post-rooting for Browsing and Graphics. Not so much high end photo work as a Stunning Layout.

I will have more questions I'm sure.

Oh I get ROOTing. Scrubbed up on my Data Handling skills from years ago (linux).

Just wondering what the true pro's are to perhaps converting to Venom?

I hear its faster and uses less battery but what does it do to the look and feel of the OS, coz it doesn't seem to do much.
