Root Auto-rotate

Ok, I'm sorry to post this but I can't really find a clear answer. If I use go launcher as my default launcher will I get auto rotate or do I have to root. As of right now that is the only reason that I can find to root this other than the fact that I want the otg cable to work. Would I have to root for that too?

i don't know if GO Launcher provides auto-rotate home screen.

but other launchers- Apex and Nova both provide auto-rotate home screen.

Stock launcher rotates and works very smooth for me. I don't see the need for a custom launcher unless you want to be doing a lot of customization. OTG works for a lot of things without root, but not for mounting external storage. Things like keyboards, mice, controllers,... Should all work out of the box.

Ok. So which thread do I go to in order to root. And should I get it and do the 4.1.2 update first ? I'm not getting my Nexus seven for a little bit we just put it on layaway. I just want to have all this figured out for when I get it.

Soon as you get it unlock the boot loader. Preferably using wigs nexus toolkit to do it all for you. You can root using his toolkit as well.

I'd link but I'm in the lab in my phone

I got wugs rtk on my pc. Thanx tho that's what I needed to know was which one to use. Also if I root does it automatically do the auto-rotate. Or do I have to do something else first. The same for the otg cable and mass storage. Do I need to mod in order to do that or simply root?

The 4.1.2 update will auto rotate.

USB otg for mass storage requires a kernel to support it. You'll want the stickmount app as well. Look at the USB otg stocky thread

You're fine without a custom kernel, except if you'd want to write to ntfs partitions. Everything else will work fine on stock kernel with root and StickMount.

The newest windows file system. Many sd cards wil still be fat32, the previous system. But high capacity hard drives will more often be ntfs, since that supports files larger then 4gb. You can check that when you see a drive in windows, right click it and click properties.

Well... Wikipedia? If you know what fat is, you shouldn't have trouble understanding ntfs is he same thing but newer (has some things improved like garbage collection and boot sections). But in regards to android all you need to know is it doesn't provide full ntfs support, certain kernels have it built in but stock will only be able to read it. That just means you can't place or remove files on ntfs drives.

Ok kool. Good looks dude. I was just doing a little research on it. So since my flash drive is fat32 its good to go?

Sure, should be no problem. Some older drives won't be mounted, but that just seems to be due to incompatible hardware. As far as flash drives go, I think pretty much everything is supported.

You could also go smaller and consider a usb mSD convertor, combined with 32/64Gb sd cards. You'll have loads of storage the size of a usb connector.
