I've been looking around for an app that automatically turns on the WiFi when the charger is connected to the phone, and then turns it off again when the charger is disconnected, but I can't seem to find anything...

Does anyone know of an app capable of this?

there is a program called tasker. it is in beta (free for the time being) and is a little complicated to use but is VERY customizable and has many features. You can check out the wiki which will explain how to setup exactly what you want

Thanks - Locale seems to be exactly what I need - and easy to configure, so it's already running here... :-)

I've used the Power Manager app for this purpose for just over six months now. Very flexibly allows a variety of options like this to be set up and automagically actuated.
