Autocorrect Email Addresses

Hey everyone, I am new but I am so frustrated with this issue I had to start an account! lol Its little but I started searching it with no luck and I figured I would double my efforts by adding it here, while I continue to look as well.

I have a Nexus 5 with Android 4.2.2 and whenever I type an email address in a text message it changes "person@there.com" to "person - there.com" I can not write email addresses? Anyone seen this?

Thanks!
Jase

Hi BCJase. Welcome to Android Forums. I moved your thread here so that it will receive the attention it deserves. I bet that is frustrating.... I'm sure the members that are familiar with the N5 will know just what you should do to fix the problem. Thanks for joining these forums. I how you enjoy your time here.

Hey BCJase and welcome to AF.
I definitely don't have that problem on my N5 and I even tried to duplicate the proplem but without success...Thankfully, but I do bet that it is very annoying for you.

So you are running a stock ROM... What keyboard version are you using? Are you using the stock android keyboard, the google keyboard or are you using a third party keyboard?
I'm using the Android keyboard (AOSP)

Couple things you can try -

After typing the email address and before pressing the space bar, long press on the email address and try adding the email address to the dictionary.

Try changing the auto-correction aggression.
Go to - settings/language and input/ then select the settings button next to your keyboard - Scroll down to auto-correcrion. I set mine at "modest" so that is not aggressively auto correcting my typing.
While your in the keyboard setting you might want to just look around at some of the other settings too.

You could also go to - settings/apps/all apps - Select your keyboard and then clear the data and cache.
This will delete any keyboard data/Personal dictionary.
