Automatic content downloader

I'll start by asking if anybody has heard of an app that achieves the following or of an app that does anything similar.

  • Download content from the web (RSS or not) so it can be viewed offline
  • Can do so automatically, without any user interaction
There is an app I currently use known as "Pocket" or "PocketMe" which allows content to be downloaded to a device so it can be viewed offline. It can do this through many different platforms, for example you can save an article to Pocket through your web browser and then view that article on your phone through the Android Pocket app.

Basically, I just want to automate this process so the following will be possible:

  • The latest x articles from user specified sources can be downloaded at a specific time or just whenever a new article is posted
That way I can have the latest news from sites I like downloaded automatically to my tablet every morning before work so I can look at it on the train when I don't have internet.

So basically, if nobody knows of an app or set of apps that can do this, I want to set about making my own app to do it using the Pocket API. So the second question is this idea feasible? I've never made an Android app before so I don't know the inner-workings of Android.

The only problem I can currently foresee is if it's not possible to get content from the web automatically after Android has gone to sleep. Would it require leaving Wi-Fi on all night just so it can use it say, 10 minutes before I wake up to grab the latest content? Or is it possible to have Android automatically wake up and start downloading things without any user interaction whatsoever?

I imagined an app like this would already exist but I couldn't find it anywhere if it does.

If you didn't skip to the end, thanks for hearing out my idea :P
